M4
Cool. Feels like you've picked up homework here, but interesting In this instance specifically, indeed, I see no reason for a Brown Ale to get in the way as there is so little downside if any. Just wonder how and if they could given different circumstances.
ramirez
In a previous life I worked at toffs and they had an agreement to use a retro brown ale logo on a 1927 shirt, was especially popular in the USA. just seen the 96/97 training gear in the background of some of the promo shots, hopefully they’ll be next off the the converter belt. The three t shirts in particular were class. Edited January 9 by ramirez

Just had a look at it in person - she's right about the namesets being vinyl but in no way is it "far inferior" to the original. The flock is not poor quality, the badge isn't yellowing (no idea what she's on about) and the collar details are exactly the same as the original, right down to the material which has the same weave pattern on it. It is not just a Score Draw remake with an adidas badge slapped on it - it is superior in every aspect to the Score Draw. If anything the only difference is the fit, and that the badge and the sponsor are actually better executed than the original. Don't know if her assessment is anything to do with the fact that she seems to work for Classic Football Shirts who charge at the absolute top end of the market for the original (as well as not disclosing aftermarket namesets on shirts) Edited January 10 by Harry

TBG
It's much better in person like. Wouldn't say it's £90 worth (but what is these days), but it's definitely way above the snides. Bring on the away kit.
Kid Icarus
I took a look at it in Fenwicks today. I have the original so can compare and basically the parts that can be considered a downgrade are the thinner material and the fit, even then it's down to personal taste. The rest of it looks fantastic and better quality. £90 is obviously a rip off, but it's not poor quality at all like, it looks and feels class. The crest looks extra crispy compared to original also, I like that.
mattypnufc
Mines just arrived. Slightly thinner/lightweight material. Probably a good thing as it’s clearly a more modern knit, however the waffle/stripe style remains. Everything else is bob on. The brown ale badge is super bright, but I think people remember when it was a bit faded after a few washes. Our crest is much better than the original though, again modern techniques I suppose. The rest is pretty much bang on. Obviously square box sizing aside. Sleeves are still OG long too.

Did they do single layered letters back in 95-97 or are these aftermarket? The patina on them looks right to me, they don't look new. bobbydazzla
@M4 The Heineken Marketing bod didn’t even know that Adidas were reissuing a shirt with the Brown Ale logo on But the view was that it’s free advertising for a beer brand that they spend zero money promoting, so no downside for Heineken

Seems to become lesser and lesser known as time goes on.
