In the draw rehearsal earlier today…

England
Mexico
Iran
Ecuador

That would be a decent group, the game against Mexico would be a great one I think. Would also be nice not to have any European teams in our group.

Will definitely endeavour to watch the draw live tomorrow.

Draw on Friday and all the pots more or less done. Teams from same confederation can't be put into the same group except for two UEFA side.

Pot 1: Qatar, Argentina, Brazil, Belgium, France, England, Portugal, Spain

Pot 2: Mexico, USA, Uruguay, Switzerland, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands

Pot 3: Iran, Senegal, Morocco, Serbia, Tunisia, Poland, South Korea, Japan

Pot 4: Canada, Ghana, Cameroon, Saudi, Ecuador, Australia/UAE/Peru, Wales/Scotland/Ukraine, New Zealand/Costa Rica

Potential to be some pretty fun groups and group A could potentially be the worst one ever at a World Cup. As a top seed, do you prefer to be in Group B for a potentially easier match in the knock-out stages or Group C so you get 1A v 2B potentially in the quarter-finals?

What a gyp for the Pharaoh’s. Senegal progress to the joy of everyone who doesn’t have to watch Egypt’s aaaaaful football.

I'm glad Egypt's terror-ball hasn't been rewarded

It's a shame Algeria faced Cameroon.

In terms of strength and likelihood to succeed at a WC Africa would want:
Senegal

Cameroon

Algeria

Morocco

Ghana/Nigeria

Having Qatar at a World Cup Finals is absolutely fucking grim, mind.

What's the odds on them pulling a South Korea/Italy kind of result to ensure they don't go immediately out in the group stages?

Calling it now, they'll have some spectacularly dubious referee calls go in their favour.

Quite difficult with VAR. With that being said, their team has been doing alright as of late and in an easy group they might stand a small chance of going through. Give them a group like USA/Mexico, Tunisia and Ecuador and I can see them not completely embarassing themselves tbf.

Can you have 3 European teams in same group? Group of death would be Germany, all meh, Wales/Scotland.

No. Five groups will have two European teams, three groups will have one European team.

How so, VAR has pulled/ignored some true shockers this season? 2 spectacularly bad ones for us, and no doubt every other team could quote a couple too.

FIFA will want Qatar to go through to justify going there in the first place, and we all know what happens when the organisers of a tournament want a certain result.

But it would require more than one or two shockers for Qatar and people would honestly question the integrity of the game if there are obvious shockers in favour of Qatar repeatedly at this WC.

Have they made up some ridiculously convoluted scheme for this draw ?

Wouldn't say so. Four pots determined on rankings. All of Pot A is drawn across eight  groups, then all of Pot B, and so on:

Pot 1

Qatar, Brazil, Belgium, France, Argentina, England, Spain, Portugal.

Pot 2

Mexico, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Uruguay, Switzerland, USA, Croatia.

Pot 3

Senegal, Iran, Japan, Morocco, Serbia, Poland, South Korea, Tunisia.

Pot 4

Cameroon, Canada, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, Ghana, Wales/Scotland/Ukraine*, Costa Rica/New Zealand, Peru/UAE/Australia**.

*Scotland play Ukraine, with winner playing Wales.

**Australia play UAE, with winner playing Peru.

No provisos, this team from pot a can't play this team because they were in the same qualifying group etc ?

No team from same confederation except for UEFA teams where 2 UEFA sides can be in the same.

Ideal draw for me would be England, Germany, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia. One game to get us all hyped up with 2 very winnable games in case we mess it up.

Exactly the type of group I'm hoping for Brazil. Problem is if you mess it up and then have to play someone like France in the last 16 already.

It would not be surprising, and plenty of people have and still are questioning the integrity of the game

Germany

Serbia

Ghana

Ingurland to go out in the group stages

That was looking like the group of death initially, Putingrad and the hosts would have sealed it.
