I got asked if I wanted extra hrs at work yesterday to join a new short term project.

The assignment was watching 6 World Cup games and to count how many times the crowd shouts OLE.

I don’t want the extra hrs but it probably would have been the best job I’ve had.

Only just seen this thread - so not going back over 184 pages so this may have been mentioned.

But whilst I hope the best team wins, there are no injuries (pitch states have been commented on), I hope that from a financial point of view it's a fucking disaster.

Would love all of the games in the US to be played in empty grounds - would serve them right.

I have friends who don't like football. I've never really understood them. However, I can fully back their view with this WC - now more than ever with my general ennui with international stuff: Trump, FIFA, ticket prices, travel costs, Infantino etc. If this is supposedly the pinnacle of the beautiful game then I really don't like football either. A very easy pass to watch zero games of what is already an international bore fest. Fuck the fuck off FIFA. I'll be sleeping/reading/eating depending on the kick off times. I hope too it is a financial disaster.

Had to take my Mum to the doc’s this morning and I have been yawning constantly. I can’t keep this up - it’s going to have to be highlights shows most of the way.

Are we getting longer gaps between games for teams this year due to the move to 48? If so that’s a legitimate plus.

She good?

Oh yeah, just a check-up. She has no idea who I am, but we’re still at the stage where she’s happy I can keep her safe, and that’s actually easier than if she had a bit more memory left tbh

FIFA have been caught manipulating demand for hotels in host cities to drive up cost.

The biggest, most inclusive world cup of all time. Right.

Makes no sense at all, of course hotel prices would 10x if there is a World Cup- what’s that got to do with fifa , if there was a World Cup in the uk same thing would happen

I’m never going to get my head round this bloody schedule. Bleary-eyed, checking the BBC for today’s games. Canada at 8, then the USA game is obviously on the next day’s page, only it shows up at the bottom because it’s Group D, not Group B or Group C. My own fault for not understanding it before my brain kicked in, but still mildly annoying.

We did the family draw before kick-off. Twelve teams each FFS, from four pots decided by FIFA ranking. Could have done without Portugal, Belgium, Morocco from Pot 1, not least because I always root against Portugal for being whiny bellends every time.

Hotel bookings are actually down in a lot of US cities.
