Not enough fit left-footed LBs.

Bang.

Or is it because he plays for Arsenal? Every time I've seen him he's been crap. Gordon has had no help whatsoever from him. He keeps hiding. If you've played football then you know what I mean.

Yeah, I was a left-back too, at least when I played at an OK level

I haven’t seen it in him either, but I avoid watching Arsenal as a rule so I don’t feel qualified to comment. I feel like in general when I’ve watched him he hasn’t been particularly bad but he hasn’t been particularly good.

That's my point actually. I mean you have to be a little special at your trade to get an international cap. This Skelly bloke is average at best.

He looked really good when he first broke through at Arsenal, got injured and hasn't looked anywhere near as good.

Is that us through without conceding a single goal?

Against the might of Serbia, Albania, Latvia and Andorra.

Given the discrepancy in quality of respective sides and the amount of coin that goes into each side, it's absolutely where England should be

Tbf both Serbia and Albania are decentish sides, and I'm guessing there won't be many other teams that haven't conceded a goal yet in the qualifiers.

France, Portugal, and at a push, Belgium might have cause to be in the same bracket (i.e. an expectation not to concede against the shite they're playing)

Somewhat bittersweet to watch Anderson dominate a midfield like that.

I'm not sure exactly what Rice brings to the party. My usual gripe, I know.

Nothing bittersweet about it at all IMO, he'd be a Newcastle player if it wasn't for rules made for keeping us down. It's great to see him thriving, as it's through no fault of neither the club or him why he's not playing for us. And even Howe admitted that he might not have had the same development had he stayed as our midfield is so strong.

You don't see what Rice brings? Lad is one of the best midfielders in the world (second only to Rodri in the PL IMO) and has probably the best set piece delivery in the world right now.

I agree about and Anderson. It kills me to say it but Declan Rice is the business in midfield.

We don’t know that - if PIF had been able to spend, there is every chance he’d have been ejected in 2022.

Fair, but the way he was sold has nothing to do with either him or the club wanting him out, which was my point. I understand the bittersweet feeling about him, but I just don't feel that at all, I just love seeing a Newcastle lad doing so well, and if anything it makes it even better knowing that we only had to sell him because of some stupid rules.
