Perez and Mitrovic in theory make an OK combination but they'll struggle to get 15 goals between them all season and that'll see us down. Disgusting we wouldn't pay £12m for Austin.

If the rags are to be believed we are still not keen, despite him probably having a reduced fee. Makes no sense at all.

Basically. That was always the risk with Mitro. Anything less than a dozen goals, we'll be struggling badly.

We needed solid PL players. Needed an Austin/Remy.

And I like Mitro. Just can't sign a young lad from the Belgium league and ask him to score the goals to keep us up.

you can, but can't if you're going to give him no supply or support. His age and experience counts for fuck all if he doesn't get supply.

Why's Perez scored more despite playing far deeper then? How did Cisse manage to get 1 in 2 last season?

You're playing with fire expecting players - especially young ones - from other leagues to score goals for you. Even the likes of Shevchenko and Crespo failed in the PL. Totally unique place to get goals and when you've got the opportunity to sign someone proven to get goals for you for a relatively low amount you fucking break your back to sign him. As per usual we prioritised sell-on value, though.

Think of his header off the bar at Old trafford, his  close header that raised the crowd V Chelsea, think how much we've gave him a chance. Instead we drop Anita to right back when we have the ball so Janmaat can play right wing seemingly in order to allow sissoko to come inside and keep him happy and leave us actually a man short in the middle. Seems like no matter who the manager is he's trying to keep certain players happy.

said after the norwich game when they ripped us up (before wijnaldum went apeshit) with quality crosses that if mitrovic gets that service he'll score a bagful, fact is he's not getting that service

don't think i can remember him ever getting a clear header at goal created for him in a good position that he's missed, always seems to be scrapping for half-chances

Goalscorers always kind of find a way to get themselves into situations where they can score and it doesn't look like Mitrovic is much of a goalscorer so far. Cisse for example even though he is rightly not starting usually somehow gets in a position where he has a good chance of scoring although he often misses. Mitrovic is a good footballer like and is still very young so he can improve. The service is also a big problem though obviously

Thing is, it's not a static given. There are literally hundreds of mitigating factors that can help or stop someone scoring enough goals to have an impact. You can't say that just because Perez can score more, or Cisse scored 1 in 2 last season, it outright means Mitrovic can't. It really isn't that simple.

Mitrovic clearly isn't getting involved enough in our build-up play, and he certainly isn't getting anywhere near the number of chances your main striker should be getting. If he was missing chance after chance, or wasn't getting himself in good positions, I'd tend to agree that he might not be good enough yet/ever. As it is, not many strikers of his type would be getting joy the way we set our attacking play up, especially the way we've played in the last two games.

Can't argue with people saying he's just a 21 year old kid from the Belgian League so what do people expect but for me all that does is highlight the serious flaw in our transfer policy when Austin, a player who scored 1 in 2 in the PL and in an even worse team than ours, was overlooked.

We seriously have to stop buying young players in the hope we can improve them and sell them on for a song (especially with our record of improving players) and start buying players who can make an impact here and now. As things stand our main striker is on course to finish the season with more yellow cards than goals.

I'd like to judge him once he's getting regular service. It's really hard to be too harsh on him when he's getting one chance a game at best.

Alan Shearer in his prime would be wondering where the next goal is coming from in this side as it's that bad at getting the ball to it's strikers in front of goal.

Exactly. If he was missing chances then fair enough but he's not being given any to miss.

Don't think anyone will disagree there. Like anything in life you need balance in football. A mixture of attacking, defensive, old and young players. At the moment we seemed to have half the squad being 21 and wanting to play the number 10 role, it truly is shambolic.

This isn't football manager bro. I said it from the start - we're playing a very risky game with signing these inexperienced strikers. In the last 5 years we've rarely given our strikers "good service". Cisse scored goals from all angles and to this day is the most likely to find himself in a goalscoring position due to movement, Ba would just bundle goal after goal into the net and Remy's pace and movement would get into goal scoring positions. These  where all seasoned strikers brought in at 25-26.

We needed players to come and hit the ground running. Players that would be as close to guaranteed 7 or 8/10 as possible. Austin & Moses for two. We needed to steady the ship. You go out and sign young players when you are in a relative position.

I thought Pardew would relegate us with the squad last season - it was awful. If not for Perez , Janmaat and Cisse being much better than expected we would've gone down. We needed steady signings. Solidify us as midtable, then go again with youngsters.

I have no problem with buying youth. We just need a balance and to prioritise. Thauvin (less wages i'm sure) fee was Austin money. I like Chancel but he's not the type of defender we needed.

He's not as effective when he's up against big stoppers like Huth. He needs to show more than just aerial prowess, he's got to be getting in goal scoring positions more. Granted he's not getting much service, but even so I'm not sure what his finishing is like because he doesn't seem to have many efforts on goal. Cisse might not provide much outside the box but he's always sniffing for chances.

He's a bit flat-footed in the box and seems to be struggling to get to grips with less space around him in that area. We do get crosses in but they're often crap and that negates quite a large part of his threat. I can see why he'd get frustrated but we can't afford for him to be like that.

Was it Saturday when in the first few minutes he tried to play an incredibly inventive flick in the box from one of our usual shit crosses? Was really unlucky it didn't come off. He's very skilful and aware imo but he's just not seeing the ball enough in the right places because the rest of the team doesn't function. He'll score goals.
