Jonjo Shelvey (now playing for Çaykur Rizespor, on loan from Nottingham Forest)

Shelvey is a very good player. He's enabled by the players around him though, our movement off the ball has been atrocious for years.

We've got plenty of players that like running on the ball, but have no concept whatsoever of moving off it - Sissoko, Townsend, Wijnaldum to name 3 of our 'best' players.

It's no coincidence on Shelvey's debut he pinged about 5 long passes to Janmaat as he's the only player with a football brain, despite his shite defensive contribution.

Our team is awash with brainless, head-down, Forrest Gumps and it's no wonder Shelvey is looking gash when faced with trying to pick a pass in our team.

He's nowhere near a very good player.  He's got one attribute and that's it, rest of his game is either poor or awful.

And it's an attribute that doesn't even come off that often.  Some of his drilled balls from the centre circle in a vertical line to the keeper were beyond baffling - it's a pass that would literally never work.

He loses the ball through misplaced passes less than nearly all of our other attacking players when they just have the ball at their feet.

He does that as well.

So? All you are essentially saying is that he is as bad as the other crap we have? My gripe is that he plays passes that he isn't good enough to actually execute.

I thought he was a good player and would be good for us but he is the wrong fit in almost every way.

Sit off him, give him lots of room and time and he will pick a pass and play people in. But he cannot stamp any kind of authority on a fast moving game with competitive and skillful opponents. He like Gini is a passenger and it is costing us massively. He is another in a long line of wasted buys. Bought because of his nationality and so-called experience. Another wrong fit and another expose of our twisted transfer policy.

Although he's the only player that can pass the ball forwards to someone in our team, he is really starting to fuck me off. Constantly pointing telling players to mark/close down others yet never actually attempting to go for a player, stick a foot in or track a runner. They showed a couple of clips on MoTD re: Naismith and on 2 occasions it's him doing that, and it was constant. £24m on him and Townsend is looking like a right fucking waste of money.

One of the few to make himself available and at least tried to get the ball forward. He even tried to make a couple of runs forward himself which, predictably, failed miserably as he just can't run.

The Romford Pirlo will do OK in the Championship though.

Dragged down by this club like so many others. Looks completely lost. We desperately need some leadership on the pitch. We have none at this club. Shelvey is capable of being that imo but not in this situation and so many others already giving up. He looks down and he plays like he is down.
