mozy
As long as he's passing the ball forwards then he's doing the right things. Needs a 'buzzy' type player alongside him though. Nah, your central midfielder has to be one of the most active players on the pitch, you can't leave the work to someone else. Didn't see the game today though, so no idea if he was as bad as is being made out. He's not inactive or lazy, he's just not very agile. It's hard for him to be a high tenacity, buzzy type player, if that makes sense.

Gallowgate Toon
Quieter than last week, but I still thought he did some good things. As has been mentioned, he was asking for more forward movement at times as he obviously wanted to play the ball quicker.
Guest firetotheworks
It begins What? People commenting on his performance? That begun last week. Unless you only want to see positive reviews? Nah. Nothing more than having a feeling that this would happen fairly quickly. What made you feel that? I still think he'll be pivotal but had also expected his initial impetus to last a good 4-6 weeks before he faded to our normal standards (). Because he has a reputation for being/looking lazy, being inconsistent and he's an attacking player that plays for Newcastle. Everything adds up. DJ_NUFC
A lot of people are hell bent on taking tongue in cheek, purposely exaggerated posts like "baldback" and using them to sit on their fictional high horse and pretend the posters actually meant that. If that's what you really think, your sense of humour is about as effective as McClaren's ability to manage.
Collage
Aye, "Baldback" is hilarious. Classic stuff. Especially since Shelvey is pretty much the opposite of Colback as a player.

DJ_NUFC
You guys are clutching at straws, man. He was terrible today and rightfully called out for it. Some chose to do so in a humourous way. You can choose to hold me to my comments as some sort of sign that signals the end of western civilization or you can actually develop a sense of humour, one as terrible as mine. Foluwashola
Player we've just signed, with 3 other team changes, tactics we've used once and only prepared for since yesterday. Useless twatt. Duck me this place is reactionary and keyboard warrior central post match. You've been on here since time began Madras, yee kna what to expect. Guest Howaythetoon
He is a good player and well suited to us, but you just know he wasn't signed to improve the team, but because he was available, young, English and has potential resale value. That's the problem with our recruitment policy, everyone bought is signed with how they fit into the side as an after thought. FWIW he did OK today, found his man more often than not and looked to play the ball forwards.
loki679
He suffered today (like the team as a whole) from not having many options out wide. Sissoko was playing inside so Janmaat wasnt getting up as much and on the other side Aarons was struggling to get up and down unsurprisingly. The lack of width and proper full backs overlapping really disrupted our play imo and made it easy for Watford to shut us down.

Aiston
Spent far too long pointing and shouting at team mates instead of getting involved today.
Wallsendmag
He looked very frustrated yesterday. He's clearly the type of midfielder who likes to get on the ball and play it forward, unlike Colback, Tiote and Anita. On quite a few occasions he would get on the ball, look up to play a forward pass only to find Mitrovic stood there, no movement, not trying to create himself, or make a run. Shelvey actually lost his temper with him in the 2nd half.
KaKa
With Sissoko and Gini just off Mitro, it clogged up the middle, with no real width in the forward positions. The wing backs were not that advances the majority of the time. Yet another reason the formation was a stinker. Did not allow us to get the best of Shelve IMO. Altamullan
Watford cancelled him out/ contained the threat his range of passing poses. Didn't they change formation and have three central midfielders?
Gallowgate Toon
Watford cancelled him out/ contained the threat his range of passing poses. Aye, so a decent manager would have spread the play wide, reacted to the situation and taken advantage. We just banged our heads against the same wall for 90 minutes. Tbf, Sissoko was pretty much a winger for the second half after Perez came on. Still needed more balance, though.
Hanshithispantz
The thing is I think going into half time he genuinely thought everything was rosey. Where he should have been using the 15 minutes to change things about and make sure everyone understood their role he seemingly just stood there grinning.
