Would we have turned down £13m for him in the summer had he not had a release clause? If so, we should be prepared to pay that for him now.

Depends. Did he get a better contract when he signed for them? If so we'd probably have to match that. Then there is the question of signing on fee.

no way we should lose money on the deal.

Circumstances have changed though, the players 'stock' isn't as high as what it was in the summer

His stock was higher than £13m tbh, we had to let him go because there was a relegation clause for that amount.

If Palace are desperate to get rid Townsend can just say he only wants to join us. They might then be forced to loan to us under the reasonable gamble that they can bank £10m as a permanent transfer on promotion clause.

Also worth mentioning though that Townsend doesn't want to play in the championship, he made sure when he joined that a relegation release clause was added and then left as soon as a premier league club came in for him

He's not a benchwarmer either, he's basically playing every game. If it was a case of him not playing like at Spurs then this could happen but he's playing regularly in London with family close

London's only an hour's flight away, these days for a young footballer it should be pretty easy to get up and down the country for a couple of days when there's a break in fixtures. If he's got any football ambition at all he would jump at the chance to come back and play for a big club.

Palace won't accept a loan even if it's a view to a permanent move in the summer.

If he's going to go they will want money this January for a replacement or the deal just doesn't benefit them

Signed Schlupp haven't they?

Townsend didn't want to play in the Championship because he feared it would harm his England prospects though. He is well out of the picture out of the moment and doesn't appear to be enjoying life at Palace either.

I used to see Danny Simpson after most home games jumping on the choo choo to the smoke

He'll still want the money for other positions like defense

Didn't he make the last England squad?

Exactly. It's a 3hr train journey, on the money players earn these days they could rent a house here for themselves and their girlfriends or wives and then pop down to London to see the rest of their clan whenever there was a break. I thought it was a short-sighted decision to leave in the first place, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he wants to come back.

Can't get over this

It's Marveaux, Ben Arfa, Thauvin, Cabella, Gouffran ... all over again. If only there was a job for ruining players then Pardew would be set.

I'm all for bashing Pardew but it's a stretch to blame him for ruining Thauvin

He didn't manage Thauvin, he barely had 4 months with Cabella, and as for 'ruining' Gouffran.

Seriously, I don't wanna defend Pardew but you've got to cork this never-ending stream of rubbish posts.

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt because Kaka's usually sound, recently though...
