Altamullan
Just imagined Shelvey with Townsend, Gayle and Ritchie in the Championship (Ritchie is class at this level with the right players in the team) Add a young potential worldy no.10 OR very experienced Beardsley type signing (hen's teeth, I know) plus a proven more defensive CM (though not necessarily pure CDM) to alternate with Hayden or Shelvey and I think that is enough to comfortably consolidate in the Premier League and to build upon. I can see Hayden and Townsend getting better with continued use, Rafa coaching and the confidence that comes from being relied upon.

Bet he could still do it at this level!!
Leazes_End_Mag
Sammy will be off if we get Townsend Hope we end all negotiations if this is true. Always need a Ameobi to make sure your club still has that fun feeling about it.
polkaDot
I kind of admire Townsend for having the guts to hold his hands up and come back, with all the scrutiny and some criticism that will come with it. Fair play. i won't hold it against him. He'll be lucky to be getting another chance really. This for me.
merlin
On the basis that all footballers bar a minority are money-focused, double-digit IQ cretins, I find it hard to blame Townsend for anything he's done. As a footballer at Spurs would he really know anything at all about our fans feelings towards Pardew? He's hardly gone there to spite us now has he. It looks like he wanted to stay in the PL, have a chance at England and he thought Palace would allow him to do that. So he's stupid. Would have him back here in a heartbeat no question. Me too - seemed to click at our place and had a good relationship with Rafa. Made a professional decision (wrongly in my opinion) but did it in the right way and as far as I'm aware didn't twist in public. No hard feelings at all towards him and would welcome him back. This - Townsend would be a great signing if he played with as much effort and conviction as he did last season...he clearly has a good rapport with Rafa and must be fond of the club to risk any hostility from small-minded fans. Hope this happens, we need another fast winger.

joeyt
Newcastle are only willing to do a loan deal for Andros Townsend. That could scupper their hopes of bringing the Crystal Palace winger back to the North East. Palace are willing to listen to offers for the England winger just six months after his £13m move to Selhurst Park. They want their money back and want to do a permanent deal. The 25-year-old has failed to justify his price tag with just one goal and two assists for the struggling Eagles. After Alan Pardew's sacking, Sam Allardyce is prepared to sacrifice the former Tottenham wide man as he bids to stave off relegation http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-only-willing-loan-andros-9651438
The College Dropout
Big Sam is woeful. I'd spend £13m to get bring him back tbh. It's the type of signing we would look to make in the PL anyway.
xLiaaamx
He'd, like Shelvey. Be miles above this league. 13 million is something we were prepared to pay last time and he'd improve us even more this time.

Aye as much as I find it funny that they want a fee they don't feel he's worth I'd still pay £13m if we had to. I think he'd be worth that for us, now and in the future when we go up. Seymour
Palace won't accept a loan even if it's a view to a permanent move in the summer. If he's going to go they will want money this January for a replacement or the deal just doesn't benefit them
Nobody
Would we have turned down £13m for him in the summer had he not had a release clause? If so, we should be prepared to pay that for him now.

Then there is the question of signing on fee. no way we should lose money on the deal.

James
If Palace are desperate to get rid Townsend can just say he only wants to join us. They might then be forced to loan to us under the reasonable gamble that they can bank £10m as a permanent transfer on promotion clause.
Seymour
Also worth mentioning though that Townsend doesn't want to play in the championship, he made sure when he joined that a relegation release clause was added and then left as soon as a premier league club came in for him He's not a benchwarmer either, he's basically playing every game. If it was a case of him not playing like at Spurs then this could happen but he's playing regularly in London with family close

If he's got any football ambition at all he would jump at the chance to come back and play for a big club.
