Hell, as s*** as we have been - had Gayle stayed fit (not even including Clark into this) we'd have secured promotion and either be competing for the title or clear path to it.

You have to expect injuries at some point though. We have four strikers on the books which is probably more than most in this division. The problems have been in more than one area.

of course you have to look at injuries - but our Brighton's top 2 leading scoring players are Glen Murray and Knockaert. Both with over 40 appearances between them, Dwight Gayle has some 30+ appearances. I know injuries happen and you can't jut blame that because you'd expect Perez, Mitro, and Murphy to make up the difference but where would Brighton be if Murray played 8-10 less matches?

I don't know who Brighton's back up strikers are, but what has become clear is that ours aren't up to the job. We have a bigger squad than Brighton and most people assumed that Mitro and Perez would piss this division. A bit of a reality check on their limitations if not totally unexpected.

26 starts for Gayle and 32 for Clark - two of our four real stand-out players who we've massively missed.

The midfield minus ritchie haven't scored enough goals as well imo, it's not just down to strikers failing.

Yeah, Shelvey and Gouffran have dried up after scoring a few in the first half of the season.

I assume you mean't each. Between them would not be alot. They've certainly been helped by keeping their best players fit most of the season, while we have had the problem we always seem to have at the club of persistent injuries to key players. It is what it is I supposed, lets hope we can get back to a near clean bill of health for the remaining games.

Tbh I think the bigger miss has been when Hayden has been out , we've dropped something like 16 points since January when he been out, the whole team dynamic is shot weve been dire to watch for the simple reason every one has to play to cover who ever has been along side Shelvey.

How much do Barnsley hate Huddersfield? Does it not work in our favour that if it came to it they would rather we were promoted therefore resulting in 3 easy points.

IIRC they still shout abuse at wheels and shiny things so there is a fair chance they don't like people from two towns over.

Really it should have been an easy three points no matter what, we are at home playing a team we beat comfortably at their place early season who've got absolutely nothing to play for and without looking back at the records probably haven't won at SJP in a very long time. It's as good a last fixture as we could ask for at this stage, problem is we don't look like winning another game this season.

Looking back at history is slightly comforting:

We've won every single meeting with Preston since they took a point at SJP from us in 1979. That's 7 wins on the bounce.

In the exact same time frame we've played Cardiff 14 times they've one just one league game against us in the whole period, we've won 11 of those games.

Surprisingly we've played Barnsley 27 times during that same time period and won 14, drawn 9 and lost only 4 . Their last win at SJP was back in 1982 and the last win of any kind back in 1992.

These are 3 teams we've got excellent records against with absolutely nothing to play for if we can't beat at least one of them we don't deserve to go up at all.

Fulham beat Huddersfield 5-0 earlier in the season

How aren't Fulham higher up the table, truly outplayed us at SJP, a bit fortunate to win also at their place but they've also spanked a few other good teams this season. They must have the same problem we have had it putting away the lesser lights.

They've looked one of the best teams I've seen in terms of style.

Just shows there's no one way to succeed in this league, as Rafa has identified.

14 points from 12 games is I guess gonna torpedo your chances, still the 5-0 versus Huddersfield was in that run. Just hope they have one more big performance in them on Saturday, the pressure will be lifted massively on us if both Huddersfield and Reading fail to win.

Nonsense.

Other than two poor performances away from home at Ipswich and Sheff Wed, we've been fine.

It's like the Leeds performance never happened.

Sky fewmin that their Championship viewing figures will take a severe hit once we fuck off from this dogshit league.

:serious:

It makes no difference we'll be on Sky probably the same amount next season.

I think the point he's trying to make is that yes, we'll be on the same amount, but that'll be part of the already solid Prem package figures. The Championship figures will still take a hit though.
