Ronaldo
That's probably the best four defenders we've had in my lifetime Ronaldo incoming in 3...2...1... Thank you for the introduction. Off the top of my head: Albert, Howey, Peacock and Watson if we're talking a quartet of players capable of playing at CB.
BottledDog
As a collection of 4 CBs all on the books at the same time, I think he means. Certainly not as individuals edit: new page patriot Yes I did, thought that was clear TBH! Fair play, just not sure what you're basing it on other than educated hope. Three failed Prem defenders, and one lesser failed prem defender/unknown. Would love to think you're right of course.

Dokko
That's probably the best four defenders we've had in my lifetime Ronaldo incoming in 3...2...1... Thank you for the introduction. Off the top of my head: Albert, Howey, Peacock and Watson if we're talking a quartet of players capable of playing at CB. Watson was never a CB, not a chance. Howey was never fit and Peacock prone to error. Albert = legend. No arguments. But, difficult to argue really. This guy is totally unknown, JL shaky last season but hopefully down to injury while Clark has never really got on at this level. Mbemba has probably shown the most at this level than all of them but couldn't get a game in the championship. Its weird like, tough call.
Ronaldo
There's a difference between Watson being a natural CB and him being better than Jamaal Lascelles, which he absolutely was in that positon.

Not sure what the inmates are laughing at as this is perfectly correct.
Ronaldo
One of them likes to WUM and the other thinks Rafa being lied to in January is nothing to worry about. Watson was perfectly capable of doing a solid job there, and pretty much everywhere else, in the PL. Lascelles may improve but right now I don't want him anywhere near the team. captainhaircut
Lascelles looked perfectly fine under Rafa in the prem and also looked very solid with Clark in our run before xmas. I think it's perfectly fair to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume playing with a hernia impacted his game in the second half of the season. Thought Rafa was off though? Watson was pretty much the Perch of the 90's just about used anywhere the guy wore about every number available at some point or another. Comparing him as a CB and against a player who has still got a decade ahead of him is pointless. I think my opinion was Watson was better in midfield scored quite a few decent goals. Dont think he ever nailed down CB as his best position. And again on Rafa hes still here. If he was lied to in January fair enough its out of order, but bed-wetting like you and so many were last week didn't do you any good at all. Row-naldo. Best to write him off now especially against a 90's RB with a hollywood throw.

Altamullan
Watson never a centre back, but fwiw I think he was a great all round footballer and if he hadn't been so versatile, and had been given the right kind of developmental support, he would have had an even better career as a specialist box to box midfielder. Greg
Steve Watson was a solid Premier League footballer in pretty in many positions including across the back four. Over 300 Premier League appearances tell you that. Lascelles has potential but he's far from established himself as a Premier League footballer yet. Mole_Toonfan
In fairness to Ian it's not really an outlandish comment to make tbh, our collection of defenders over the years have been awful to say the very least.

Ronaldo
It's not outlandish at all. It's our best since the four Billy mentioned circa 2003 if Lejeunne is as good as a few people have said he is.
AyeDubbleYoo
It was just a thought, mainly to express how shit our CB selection has generally been. Maybe one good one at a time generally. Four that can capably do a job in the PL is very much the exception.

Benitez is probably the most defensive sound Coach we have ever had. So its probably fair to say how ever long he's here he will look at our weaknesses and defence has troubled us for as long as I can go back.
Yorkie
We've never had four - all at the same time - whom I've had total confidence in. I doubt we do now. Colo, Willo, Taylor, Hall in 09/10 mebs - but that was Championship.
TRon
Not the most exciting start to our signings with Atsu and this bloke, but that's the good thing about having a manager who knows the game inside out. We'll probably be marvelling at Rafa's judgement in four months time when Lejeune turns out to be the top notch CB we've been crying out for for so long. Hopefully.
