Jacob "The Juice" Murphy

Recommended Posts

His resurgence, and it’s been going for a long time now so can’t really call it a purple patch anymore, for me means that we may need to be looking for a young understudy with massive potential for our right wing, who is ready to learn and take over in a year or so, as opposed to a purple who pushes Murphy straight into a reserve role. Similar to the other positions of need, which are GK and RCB. Probably a lot more achievable from a PSR perspective to try to get 3 players in the 20-30m bracket than to be looking at the 50+ market for those positions, especially the RW one where suitable players are thin on the ground and likely to cost a fortune.

I don't remember that who was that against?

Think it was his celebration at home to Leicester for his first goal.

Before he scored he missed a few decent chances and crowd were getting on him a wee bit. When he did score he ran to the Gallowgate cupping his ear shouting WHAT

I’m still wanting Mbeumo. He’d be a huge shot in the arm for the first 11 and could be huge in the charge towards the finish line and next season. Dibling is the long term solution but it’s whether we want a project player or instantaneous first team impact. I reckon Eddie has the patience for the latter. Presuming both Mbeumo and Dibling are double cup tied however for this season.

Think this is all really accurate, wise stuff but at the same time signing someone with Mbeumo's output would legitimately transform us into a top 3 team.

If we are allowed by the cartel to sign someone like Mbeumo, that is.

Especially as Liverpool seem to have designs on him as Salah replacement

Agreed. My point was I thought we needed someone like Mbuemo to help us progress to become a better side, but now I’m not so sure anymore. Murphy may not be as good of a player, but in our system he works really well. Plus he’s a Newcastle fan and would bust a gut for us, and is on relatively low wages.

If money for squad reinforcements is scarse, which it likely is, Murphy playing like he is atm may just have changed our thinking about the priorities for this and the summer transfer window.

I mean, that's fair enough from a which club is more desirable right now perspective.

If we continue to be hamstrung by the unfair financial rules, we can just look for the next Mbeumo. Someone like Dilane Bakwa in France has really decent numbers in a middling side.

I think Mbeumo could potentially take us to a different level. Gordon, Isak, Mbeumo would be the best front 3 in the Premier League.

I get the idea that Murphy has shown that he can perform and play his part in us battling for top 4. But I think this might sound extreme, Mbeumo could help us challenge for a title.

I’m not saying Mbuemo is not a much better player than Murphy. My point is that in a world where our spending is artificially limited we may need to consider the possibility of Murphy staying on as the first XI option instead of outright replacing him.

I agree, but it would have to be in January, in the summer and he goes elsewhere. I like the idea because he can also be cover for Isak also. Just how Gordon sometimes goes CF when we want to save Isaks legs, we can also do it with Mbuemo. Would be an amazing option, kills two birds with one stone.
Great cover also, with many combinations possible.

Gordon Isak Mbuemo

Barnes Wilson Murphy

Willock Osula Joelinton

According to Fbref Mbeumo is number 4 on their list of similar players to Murphy. That said Bruno Fernandes is no. 10 so I'd take it with a heart attack's worth of salt. Not sure why I even bothered to mention it really.

I love the way he has played the game since coming back in, with how he has kept it simple and played like an old school winger.  He has some pretty glaring weaknesses.  But we/he usually masks them fairly well.  I like that he is a bit of a throwback and isn't afraid to have a shot or chuck an early cross in.  Last night, his crossing was pretty dreadful and aimless.  But the volume and how he isn't afraid to keep trying it is more of a positive than a negative.

It makes me hope for a right footed player to come in as our new RW option.  Not sure how many teams play with genuine right winger types like Murphy now.  So not sure how viable that is.  But the balance of our side is better with him and Tino staying wide.  With Gordon on the other side getting licence to roam and drift inside.

Isak's form has been massively helped by Murphy/a right footer on that side, as well.

He's getting some good shots off as well as his dangerous crossing, he's a clean striker of the ball

Yep.  We quite often work the ball and he gets into an area where the pass for him is perfect for a right footer.  Against Leicester a few times, Ipswich, one where he clipped the post, I forget against who?  It was at home, Villa?  Sa made a top class save from him last night from a similar angle.

i think its going slowly back to old school.

its already started to a lesser  extent at citeh.

get the winger out wide and put the ball into the box.

the coming inside and playing side to side in front of the box isnt working as well.

luckily we can mix it up with murphy on one side and gord on the other.
