PL's been fairly shite so far this season. None of Liverpool, Man City or Spurs are playing that well compared to last year yet have loads of points on the board

To be honest this applies worldwide. Real Madrid are shiite, Barca are shiite, Bayern are shiite (currently 5th in Bundesliga), Juve are shiite but they're in a ridiculously weak league at the moment.

Could the other teams in the league be catching up? Maybe parity is starting up?

That's my point. Those teams are playing shite and losing games. Man City, Liverpool and Spurs especially haven't really started firing this season at all yet are doing well in terms of points.

Not sure how Juve are shite mind and Serie A is probably better than the Bundesliga and not far off the PL

Top 3 teams are all on same points Arsenal close in pursuit. It's fascinating, this season has potential to be one of the most interesting in a while.

Aye, I'm just speaking in terms of quality though. I'm sure they'll all improve anyway as the season goes on anyway

Give me a top of the table clash between Guardiola's Man City and Klopp's Liverpool over Mourinho v Ferguson/Wenger etc any day of the week. That's the first match I've seen between them that was shite, for a start. Nigh on every Chelsea Man United match between Mourinho and Ferguson, for example, was unbelievably shit.

Not so much Spurs but City and Liverpool have tremendous quality off the bench. Arsenal too. And they're just able to pull away from teams in crucial moments.

You have Mahrez, Auba, Sturridge coming off the bench. Players good enough to be the leagues top goalscorers / players of the season. Even the best teams around Europe dont' have as much depth.

Probably a better result for Liverpool at this stage than Man City in terms of the title ‘race’ as a City win could have knocked Liverpool off course. A win for Liverpool would have been huge for them, but I don’t think it would have had any bearing on City’s season going forward.

Both teams look quite even right now and although it was a kind of boring game, they are both a joy to watch and what I love about both managers and the two teams is they try and play their own game.

Liverpool have matured defensively since Van Dyk joined, but offensively I feel in games like this if their fast, frenzied, high pressing direct attacking doesn’t get them a goal or two as it did against City last season, they lack a Silva or De Bruyne type of play maker to clinch a win.

They are effectively relying on Henderson and Winjaldum in that sense when their front three aren’t working in tandem together, to play one of them in or to provide service to them to win tight games like this.

They are important and critical to how they play in terms of transitions, breaking play up, intercepting and their athleticism and work rate of course which by and large works very well for them, but creatively they are limited players and that limits Liverpool going forward in games like this when they aren’t at their best or their own game is being suppressed/countered.

A Coutinho or someone like him is needed in there. They haven’t exactly missed him since he left, but a player like that can be the difference as Silva often is for City for example. They don’t need that specialist playmaker against everyone, just games like this or for Europe because they will beat most teams around them due to their attackers and individuals. Will it be enough though!

They will run City close I feel and in Spurs, Chelsea and maybe even Arsenal, I think the top 4 will be far more of an interesting tussle this season between those clubs. City won’t run away with it.

I have them down as faves, however. I’m liking what I’ve seen of Chelsea though and they have the stand out player thus far in Hazard who could be their talisman in terms of leading them to the title as they look defensively strong, more creative in midfield, much more dynamic and are also able to mix it up as well in terms of scrapping.

It’s sad when I would rather watch other teams play than our own and have more of an interest on other games than those we are involved in.

Henderson that little bit of play where he intercepted and than ran the ball out of play... that sums up English players. I rate him and he’s a good player, but that touch and technique is missing in our players that isn’t in players from other nations.

He's annoying as fuck to watch off the ball. Constantly asking for it from teammates when he's in a nothing position, then you can visibly see him whinging if they don't pass it to him. If they do pass it to him he'll pass it straight back to them or pass it sideways so it's not like ignoring him costs the team an opportunity.

I think that side of his game is quite good and benefits Liverpool and indeed England as he’s always available for a pass and his passing is often accurate or precise so he rarely gives the ball away either.

Creatively though he is extremely limited and needs someone creatively alongside him for club and country. He’s important to Liverpool though because he’s physically strong, good in the air, is mobile and reads the game well so he can break play up, intercept things and because he’s a crisp passer he can keep the ball moving. That run though highlighted his poor touch and technique which exists in a lot of English players. Milner, Walker and Sterling all display such weaknesses as examples as we saw in the game a few times.

If Henderson had say Shelvey’s vision/passing range and a better touch and technique on the ball like Winjaldum has which enables him to carry the ball/dribble and get out of tight squeezes or close marking, he’d be one of the best players in the World and that’s what we need to start working on at youth level with our players, control and touch and technique.

It certainly doesn't sum up the next generation of English players that are coming through.

Hopefully not. I’m not up to date on some of the younger players coming through outside of the obvious ones that have already started to emerge so I wouldn’t know. I like Arnold and Gomes for Liverpool mind, they seem quite composed and have a good touch and technique when on the ball which is needed at the highest level.

Have a look on YouTube for Jadon Sancho, Phil Foden, and Mason Mount. All technical players with loads of potential.

I’ll take your word for it, but even so in order for the national team to truly benefit from such a crop of talent and indeed them as individuals they need to play football regularly and in a team or under a manager who encourages their natural game and doesn’t have them running around like headless chickens and flying into tackles.

Watching Silva today, he is obviously a physically competitive player and who works hard, but you rarely see him put in a tackle or chase around after someone or the ball. Compare that to Milner. It’s a side of his game that helps his team and is needed at times, but I’ve always felt it’s last ditch stuff and over compensates for a lack of skill and technique and indeed brains.

If a player like him has time on the ball and space, he looks like a rabbit caught in headlights. Players like Silva with time and space kill you and if they don’t have time or space, their technique, touch and control gets them out of trouble. You don’t see players like him just hoof the ball away because there isn’t a pass on or he’s being closed down quickly.

Bit of a long post and rant I know but it’s a pet hate of mine and allows garbage like Colback and Alan Smith a career and even fan worship. It’s what breeds your Pardew’s and Allardyces.

Great goal by Messi. So many of his goals are from him starting the move and then getting it back

Tbh no one else is going to start the moves these days for Barca - has to do it all himself

Silva's (both of them come to think of it) actually the player that Phil Foden reminds me most of.
