Hes good but not great I'd say there's more overrated players in the side. How specifically do we think Thiaw has contributed to the defence getting worse? I'd argue it's got worse, but if anything I feel a bit sorry for Thiaw in terms of the minutes he's had to play and that he's had to cover two positions at once at times. Individually he's probably been the pick of the bunch Edited May 22 by The Prophet

I’m maybe being a bit harsh saying it’s got worse because of him but in a collective he just isn’t as strong as schar
Astroblack
Best CB we've ever had. Wasn't old enough to remember Albert. Thiaw could possibly coming for that throne, gets goals like wor Fabian.

But i get the impression some of Albert's goals do a lot of heavy lifting for his reputation here. Schars pretty impressive at both ends of the pitch

Whether it's down to Thiaw or otherwise the collective defense seems to lack leadership.
LFEE
Fullbacks have been the weak link in the defence this season IMO.

Probably only Woodgate would have featured more. Couldn't have had his name on my shirt 2years before any goal. Edited May 22 by Wolfcastle

The latter two are mid 30s. Schär was basically an ironman before this freak injury? I don't think it's a gamble to give him a one year deal and have him as the fourth choice CB. We need to replace a ton of players, postponing another CB buy for a year makes sense IMO. Would love to see a cheap punt at young CB this summer though. Just worries me a bit going into a new season with half of the centre-back pool being mid 30s.
gjohnson
For what we paid Schar has been an utter legend.yes there are better defenders, but when fit this guy is one of the best we've had in terms of reliability and consistency. Never spectacular, very rarely makes massive balls up ala bramble. Handsome bugger too

Still happy to have him as a 4th choice in a season without Europe.

It sounds like I hate him or something when I love him to bits, but an extended run out the team has really done wonders for fan's perception of Schar. The whole defence looked exposed at the start of the 24/25 season, before Howe sussed the flat midfield issue.
