Lazarus
Someone really needs to tell those Derby fans the truth. They seem to think hes some sort of financial wizard but he didnt even do the DD when he bought us...
Chris_R
Ashley wants a team who will bumble around in 17th in the PL. For Derby, that's a dream. For us, that was a nightmare. If he does for them what he did for us, they'd rightly be happy.
huss9
they dont want him in to win trophies- they want him just to keep their club going. its fair enough,

The club would be in a perpetual state of managed decline, investing just enough to extract as much money as possible from it.

That was his modus operandi with us, when we got relegated he pushed to get us back up again because he needed the brand exposure and TV money. He's not a (total) idiot. He'll likely get Derby to the PL and try to keep them there. Of course I hope he tries and fails, and that it's a massive disaster. But he has the resources to do it if he wants and it would make sense. Much as I hate Ashley, this could be good for Derby and a massive improvement on what they're used to. The same outcome for 2 teams can be good for one and bad for the other, there's no contradiction there.

nbthree3
It's better than gambling for promotion and failing like the Mel Morris approach I guess. But if we weren't promoted then who knows where we'd be. Doubt we'd be back up as that plan relied on instant promotion Charnley said
ponsaelius
Ashley turned a club pushing for and playing in Europe ever year into relegation battlers and obliterated commercial revenue. He basically just cruised and lived off the collective TV money like a fucking parasite, getting actually relegated twice in the process. I'd love to know where these lunatics get the idea from that he'd take over a club destined for League One and in financial straits and shrewdly guide them to the PL. It's absolutely disjointed from reality. But they're welcome to crack on.
Deuce
I wouldnt pay too much attention to the Geordie nation, self entitled bunch of ricks that they are, even worse than that lot up the road! Ashley would be perfect for Derby, lots of experience and would put just enough into the club to ensure a steady climb away from the mess we're in. I dont want someone to come in chucking money about and end up with us like this again. For Ashley to make money he would have to be in it for the long haul, if he makes money it will mean we're in the Prem.

HaydnNUFC
After living in Derby for 2 years and in my final year there now, I've never met any Derby fans with those views about us. At all. Funnily enough, there's a few Leicester lads I'm mates with and they fully get why Ashley's a cunt, even before they met me. Knew about the asset stripping, constant relegation battles from where we were, et cetera. Seems people who perpetuate those myths seem to only exist online for whatever reason. ponsaelius
The bloke has absolutely no football acumen and neither have any of the people he has appointed to roles at the club. How's he gonna improve a Championship club? Both times we got out of the Championship we had a wagebill akin to a mid table PL club and the second time we had a CL winning manager. Bouncing back was just highlighting the atrocious mismanagement in the first place. Honestly man, the way outsiders view Ashley is fucking comical Edited October 9, 2021 by ponsaelius
Yorkie
I find it so fucking weird: fans of other clubs proclaiming so confidently and aggressively that other fans have no right to complain about their respective situations. As if they could relate in any way. For instance (completely hypothetically) if a Southampton fan came on here and said they couldn't stand Haasnhuttl, I'd be surprised and intrigued but the absolute last thing that would enter my head would be "hahaha what an entitled and clueless idiot, Saints fans don't know they're born;" I'd just assume they'd have some logical and potentially justified reason for the opinion, because how could I possibly know any better? Absolutely bizarre. I went on Grand Old Team a few weeks ago and got told Ashley was the best thing to ever happen to us and we should all give our heads a shake. I mean, what? What do you know, you divvy?
