It is so unsettling. I honestly could barely believe it when I read it. And he says that so openly without any shame, and is not questioned about it.

What does he think the purpose of his job is then? I mean there are numerous teams in leagues lower than us that pass the ball around well. What on earth is he talking about?

It's not as though we are trying to emulate Peps Barcelona team of the past for goodness sake. Can we just occasionally string a few passes that might create a scoring chance? At least a couple of times a game?

For goodness sake!

Seems to have gone full Pardew hasn’t he?

He always was.

He's done nothing but lower expectations since coming in. The only thing that separates him from Pardew is he's a Geordie which the knuckle draggers in our support lapped up.

Guest The Little Waster

Says something for the paying ' fans ' that they dont complain other than a few desultory boos at full time on the odd occasion . They obviously dont understand or care about football

I used to obsess over Pardew's quotes because he had such a rotten agenda that it felt like every sentence he came out with was enough to make you rage. I've tried (not very hard, admittedly) to avoid that with Bruce, but his comments over the last few days have just been one corker after another. He comes across as so insecure.

Disagree to a certain extent. Both poor managers but Bruce has (had) certain likeable qualities. He’s clearly good on a personal level with the players whereas Pardew couldn’t help be a pure odious narcissistic prick at every opportunity that was presented to him.

Bruce is just in the same situation as McClaren. He’s way over his head and the pressure is clearly getting to him.

Bruce has been in the job for 7 months, he has had two transfer windows and signed 8 players to which he has said himself he was delighted with all of the signings made. Yet, he is still bullshitting that he can't change tactics or even get the players to string 3 passes together. Lejeune and Schar are probably the best passers of the ball in the squad yet they find themselves on the bench. He apparently wants Shelvey, Hayden, Ritchie and the Longstaff brothers tied down to longer contracts, but why would he if he feels they can't control or pass a football. Look what Dean Smith managed to do with Villa's style of football after Bruce was sacked. Villa fans said the football was turgid under Bruce, but Smith with the same group of players made them more attractive and successful.

The reality is that Bruce is a fraud and he has managed to create this myth about himself that he has this attacking football philosophy waiting to be unleashed, but Benitez who has been gone since the summer is preventing him from doing so. Bruce is not a deep thinker of the game and he doesn't have this complicated and sophisticated style of football that only a handful of specific players can make work. Not one journalist who have been asked numerous times can explain what Bruce's style of football is, they have only said he is a nice guy and that's about it. Bruce has been in management for over 20 years and I have not heard any fan of his previous clubs or any of his friends in the media say what great football Bruce teams play, but he has conjured a false image of himself and the media have just ran with it. Only Craig Hope has hit the nail on the head by saying there is no identity with this Newcastle team.

All shite managers, of which we have had many, follow the same well trodden path.  Once they start to get challenged (and rightly so) it's never their fault.  As many have said, he has made decisions on players and has every right to change the team formation, tactics and players within the position.

He would get a little more respect if he actually tried things out, took a beating or three in the process, if it was obvious he was trying to improve the quality of football and mould the team around his football philosophy, if he had one.

Reality is, Bruce will never do that. He is simply not capable of it.  He does not have a blue print..

No point in trying to work him out as his managerial career confirms exactly what he is/not capable of.

Most if not all clubs he has been at have declined and most say the football confirms that.

Staggering quote that. Is he honestly claiming professional football players can't pass the ball around? Many of the same players who were doing it just fine last season? Individually they're all more than capable, there's a fine line between most players playing at the top level, the difference is made by coaches instilling belief and encouraging a brand of football which allows players to bring forth their talent (just look at Brighton, Sheff Utd). What an awful, awful quote.

The front three alone apparently cost close to £90m didn't they? Bit worrying that they can't pass and run. Wonder who he plans to bring in to sort the problem?
