Allan Saint-Maximin (now playing for Fenerbahce, on loan from Al-Ahli)

Presumably drugs tests have absolutely nothing to do with the manager.

Obviously not true but it’s more likely a manager would order a test for recreational drugs eg what happened with Mutu

When we signed this guy there was a lot of noise about him being all hot air and no end product. WTF was that all about?!

Given what he's done in the PL and cup so far, for one of the worst teams in the country, he must have been pissing the French league.

Yeah he has more end product than I thought he would based on the reports on him in France. He isn't the usual head down and run type, even though he sometimes obviously does that, he actually quite often looks to pick a pass at the right time and there is often a lot of quality in his passing. Has a good shot on him too as we've seen on a few occasions.

He's got bags of potential. He does still overdo the dribbling sometimes, but he's a young lad. When he gets his head up he can hit a sensational pass. With the right coaching he could go on to be one hell of a player, because not only has he got the killer pass in him, he's also got that thunderbolt shot in him as well as you said.

Therein lies the problem

He does need a good mentor though. Not sure he would be Rafa's type of player, but I think he'd actually make him a much better player.

For our third goal, that controlled first touch was unreal and to then immediately lash it at goal was even better. Said it in the match thread, that’s the type of skill and awareness that raises players to the next level.

Not building my hopes up over him. He's got bags of potential that can't be denied - think the problem lies with the fact we've got Bruce in charge and as such he won't get the best out of him. Wouldn't be surprised if he went the same way HBA did under Pardew.

And should the unlikely happen and we do turn him into a cracking player, we'll only be looking to cash in on him regardless.

the first goal where he played almiron in should be the template, said this the other day about changing the system - play joelinton or whoever as a false 9 linking with CMs and have these two higher up and narrower almost like a couple of number 10's playing off each other

you could bin joelinton off and play longstaff or shortstaff behind them tbh but these two are your best and really only chance of getting a few goals until the end of the season

More than just a speed/trick merchant. He’s a footballer, he can pass and has a degree of football savvy thinking wise. Wasted here like.

incredibly strong as well - he's constantly holding onto the ball when you think he may lose it or get crowded out

With correct coaching and the right discipline, I think he can be more of a playmaker than say a winger.

Some of his best work last night come deep, infield and him just passing the ball or instigating quick give and goes with his back to goal or faced up against an opponent. That’s what excites me most watching him. I know he can dribble away from his man, drop him with a trick or two, carry the ball or race onto a ball or knock it past his man and beat him back to the ball.

And physically so he should. That doesn’t make you a footballer though. It’s the other not so stand out things that do and he has that/can do it.

Ryan Giggs could have just been a great winger, but he wasn’t, because he was more than that, he was a great player down the flanks left or right, infield, down the middle or deep. He had so much more to his game and so does this lad.

But again, he’s wasted here. He needs a free-er role and if he has to keep carrying the ball down the flank over a larger distance or trying to take on his man to beat or several so much, or running down long balls, you’re gonna waste a clever passer, a creative give and go one and two touch mover who can do that on either flank, centrally, infield, deep, back to goal, facing goal, on and off the ball.

HBA almost, but not quite as gifted.

Look at Almiron, he kind of brings the same kind of attributes to our play and naturally so unless he’s restricted to a wide birth or is having to do more work off the ball in defence or in his own half/facing his own goal.

Free him up and he creates the play.

He's got end product like, definitely a diamond in the rough. If he gets to a good club where a proper coach can fine tune his decision making, he is going to be a top player.

Wasn't his best game today but won us the game, by far our best player.

 Thought that Valery kid actually did pretty well one on one bar the error for the goal. ASM is the only reason to watch us though

He keeps doing great things with the ball in shit positions, forty yards out and on the touchline. Imagine him in a team where he got it on the edge of the box. Us still with Rondon and Ayoze if you like.

I really don't think Rafa would go for him because of his reputation before he came here more than anything.

Don't think so much the reputation as the selfish streak when he's on the ball. Ironically that's the very reason he would be the ideal coach to make him a better player.
