Allan Saint-Maximin (now playing for Fenerbahce, on loan from Al-Ahli)

Think what I'll miss most is the promise/threat having him on the bench brings. I cant think of any type of player you'd more want to introduce to the fray theoretically.

That being said its probably best all round. If fit he'd have gotten good game time with the CL but never guaranteed starts, we get money (35-40m hopefully) in for a squad player that can be reinvested into the club as the manager sees fit and a player that would start more and he'll be entertaining in that league.

Big fan of ASM he will sit in that category of at times flawed but mercurial French winger that we have seen a lot of at NUFC.  Ginola, Robert, Ben Arfa - all different but all among the best in the world on their day.

Going to the Saudi league at age 26 feels like a waste of a career but good luck to him.  I am surprised he is giving up on ever playing for France.

I completely trust that the club know what they are doing - and know better than me - so wish Maxi well and look forward to what is next.

Or more the the way of Scott Sellars and Ruel Fox ?‍♂️

Below Ginola, Robert and HBA by a distance but still remembered fondly, above Fox for me. Sellars was slightly before my time. Just checked and he was there at the same time as Ruel Fox, I was only 6-8 years old but I remember Fox and barely remember Sellars

That's been the issue though, he's weirdly never really changed the game from the bench despite it logically making sense. I'm sad in a way he's going, as I really wanted all of the squad to get a bit of CL playing time.

Probably more like mitro, with every game we draw or lose 1-0 the same people saying we would have won if he was playing or coming off the bench. Then forever posting every time he scores in Saudi.

I disagree tbh. He's generally been ineffective from the bench, and is far better when he is able to play from the start and feel his way into a game. It's one of the biggest reasons I am accepting of his sale. If he was a great supersub I'd find it much more deflating.

Few players have been as good in theory - yet quite a bit less so in reality - as Allan Saint-Maximin. The idealized ASM would be worth 150m. The actual one is not.

I can’t decide whether he’s overrated or over criticised TBH. Probably both by different people.

Sad to see him go but we’ll move on very quickly once the season starts.

Who knows about FFP or whether we just wanted him out. Again, probably a bit of both.

Always sad to see a maverick attacker not fulfil his potential.

Understandable why some fans got emotionally attached to him, but in reality he cannot be consistently effective in this squad and system anymore. His best days for us were dragging us along under Bruce.

£25 mil would be a ridiculously cheap price -yes he lacks consistency but on his day he is unplayable.  I am not questioning selling him - I think I have been pro- selling him in the past.  It just has to be at the right price.

Yeah definitely both.

He's a world class specialist, unfortunately his specialty is dribbling which is not the most useful specialist.

That's already a complicated case, then he's also one of those players who is world class if they're fit and give a shit - and of course those players, universally, are usually not. If they usually were fit and giving-a-shit they'd just be world class players, without the "if".

So yeah he's a really fucking good specialist in a not-that-useful specialty, he can turn it up and be better but he usually doesn't.

He's a good premier League player at the end of the day, but not a great one. That doesn't move a lot of data though, so the tendency is to say he's amazing or he's shit.

In reality, he's a'ight.

Sellars was my favorite player 93-94, though who can forget this the season before after being here about a month:

In some respects, it's a shame Maxi never had the chance.

As someone who wanted him to stay here, I think i will forget him pretty fast.

His edgy emo instagram posts turned me a little off tbh.

I was barely ever watching under Bruce, so I never got attached to anyone really, Maxi obviously included. That's probably why I'm only a little bit sad about this. Whereas if it were Joelinton going, I'd be completely gutted, seeing his turnaround under Howe and what a cracking bloke he is. Maxi unfortunately hasn't had that chance to shine really, be it through injury or just not favoured enough.

Im not sure about replacing ASM with Barnes, would be a small improvement but when were restricted with FFP and need quality in other positions like LB and CB id be tempted to keep him and pie off Barnes.

We already massively overpaid for Gordon with will have impacted us FFP wise
