Also bear in mind players like him must still have in the back of their mind we are in the middle of a takeover tussle. This could be a great place to be in a couple of years time, well worth taking a pay raise if you look at it that way.

He can still sign a new contract and double his salary, and still look to move should he wish even next window if clubs want him.

 

In a year he's gone from being considered a malcontent in France to being seen as a good performer in the premier league, and teams are still going to want him regardless of whether he increases his wage now or not.

 

He absolutely should get more money for himself if offered.
