Absolutely diddly squat wrong with what he's said. He's been a quality signing for us, given us some great memories and pivotal in saving us from relegation under Bruce and getting us Champions League under Howe. Of course you want players to be disappointed and frustrated when they're not playing. Be great if he can sign off with a goal at the weekend and wish him nowt but the best.

Have no issue with him wanting to go, just wish it had been last summer or January before last and we could have extracted some value. Never warmed to him much as a fan even though he’s been an excellent signing for us overall. Desperate for him to go now though, heart sinks when he gets on before Osula

Always liked him as a player, never caused any issues off the field either and at his best he's a great striker, hence the England caps which were fully deserved.

 

He's leaving us because he doesn't play often enough? Fine. No issue there. But on the flip side we should be getting rid of him because he isn't available to play often enough.

 Top no.9 when fit, he’s absolutely in the argument for me when it comes to the third position on the podium for best NUFC centre forward in my lifetime

 

But the injuries and age have taken their toll, and it’s time to wave goodbye.  I hope that we are 5-0 up with ten mins to go vs Everton and he gets a send-off.  Onwards and upwards, hopefully we get an upgrade in the summer (though not in the looks department - our squad is about 20% less handsome automatically)

People often bemoan a lack of loyalty from players, obviously Trent at Liverpool being the most recent example. 
 

But look at this thread. How much loyalty is there from fans to players? Once a player is seen as no longer being up to scratch it’s “get rid”, “fuck him off” etc. 

 

It’s hardly surprising players nearly always look after themselves first and foremost.

I think there is a difference when a player is coming into the twilight of his career like Wilson?

 

Its obvious for all parties that this summer is the one he leaves.

 

Don't think thats disloyal as a fan to think so.

Of course, but it probably comes down to how it’s expressed I suppose (even though that probably comes across as a bit thin-skinned).

 

“I think it’s probably time for him to move on” feels a lot different to “wish he would just fuck off”.

It’s a mercenary industry and always was - there is no such thing as loyalty in football and hasn’t been since the dawn of professionalism

Years ago - pre Bosman the clubs had major power over players, probably more so on the continent than UK as we did have free transfers if a contract wasn't offered with wage parity. But the clubs could still threaten to hold registrations etc. and force players to accept insurance pay offs with long injury lay offs.

Now I would say the balance has shifted totally to the players... they have the talent so you could argue rightly slow but it's maybe gone too far... Still doesn't excuse some of the vitriol I've read here recently but still it's easy behind a keyboard!

To be fair, I think most people here wish him the best and are thankful for his time here.

 

The thing is, he offers very little now, and it would be foolish to keep him around for the good times in the past.
