When he told me who he was he shared how poorly his dad was back then even. Had loads of old photos laminated that he was selling as a weird sideline at the reception. One of my dad’s favourite players for us. Particularly his two games against Rangers iirc. RIP
geordie john
Being an older guy and having been at all the Fairs Cup matches and the league home games, when I could, in the '60's, John Mac was a colossus in every sense of the word. Just loved watching him destroy opponents, literally. He took the ball and Alan Ball out completely when we played Everton, put Gary Sprake and the ball in the net when we played Leeds but the best memory was at Roker Park, can't remember the year, but I'm sure it was very near the end of the game but he scored with a typical towering header and then clung on to the cross bar in celebration. Magic moments of a true giant and legend. RIP you hero!

Cronky
One of the players from that era whose reputation is fully deserved. If I was to construct a UK first team from the last 60 years, he'd be in there. Despite being relatively short for a striker and quite slim, he was deadly in the air. My Dad knew him personally, and liked him a lot.
