Displayname Posted yesterday at 16:30 Share Posted yesterday at 16:30 Nothing would be better than getting Willock back to his best. Its been quite a while now though. For me he has these 4 last games to show some glimpses of his old self. If he doesnt I would let him go in the summer. Should be able to get a decent fee. I get the idea but I'd much rather Longstaff leave. I can't see any way we could let them both go.

Not like their performances lately will be hard to replace Because we can't afford to replace both. How much would two Premier League level midfielders cost in your opinion? Add to that the fact that massive squad turnover isn't helpful for team dynamics and both those players have been mainstays of the team for years now so it would be a drastic change for players around them. HayDen Traces Posted yesterday at 16:58 Share Posted yesterday at 16:58 Longstaff speed of thought is really exposed now we have top players around him. You can see our attack literally drop a couple of gears when he has the ball. That said, in the right system he can be effective. Its just not with us anymore sadly. Like I said, I dont think we have to spend big to replace their quality. With the way PSR works it could easily be financed by what we would get for them in the short term. You might have a point about not overdoing the squad turnover. We seem to be doing a good job integrating new players into our squad, might not want to push it though. Dont really think the team morale would get hit by letting them go, surely the team is aware of how things have to go going forward. Depends on what Mitchell can uncover in lower leagues here or abroad. We as a fanbase are going to have to come to terms with the fact that not every player we buy can be £30M+ yet, we don’t have the revenue to do it. As others have said elsewhere we need to be competing with Brighton and Bournemouth for these gems at the 10-15M bracket, with a splattering of ready made stars added in. Also your last point doesn’t really make sense, Willock hasn’t been a regular starter for two years and Longstaff has barely played this season. Players aren't stupid and can obviously see that the trajectory of the club is upwards, which is going to necessitate some players moving on. If nothing else it stops people becoming complacent and things going stale. Something which I think we all had fears about in the early months of the season. A continual churn is good for keeping everyone on their toes and striving to perform. Do you really want a lot of players hanging around the place, who know they aren’t good enough to be starters for the team? Both Willock and Longstaff are at different stages of their careers than Dummett and Ritchie, they could have good careers elsewhere, they just aren’t the right fit for Newcastle as we currently play any longer.
