The contract, the plan, literally all was ready for an approval, funding, and a close. I hope you are right. But i don't think any of us really have a clue. Ben
My take which is probably miles off is Qatar and the big 6 told Masters to not let this happen, they then brought in Hoffman who advised them to do nothing and the Saudis would eventually walk. Ashley was obviously furious and hired lawyers to see if the deal could be restructured. It looks like he has a strong case based on anti competition laws and the EPL could be liable for Ashley's losses, a deal now needs to be struck where they can save face but also not go through the courts in case sensitive information comes out. Cannot take another season of Ashley and Bruce. .com put it best at the end of their Fulham (a) match report; Quote Today's 90 minutes encapsulated much of what we've exhibited in 38 games this season: a reasonable result but an unconvincing performance that at times verged on the unwatchable. On the fourteenth anniversary of his gaining a controlling stake in the club, Mike Ashley was present here to witness our highest finish since 2017/18, matching the 45 points collected in 2018/19. What he thought of that isn't recorded, but it's hard to believe that he derived any more enjoyment than the fans watching from afar: trapped in a loveless marriage, saddled with a club content to exist, never seeking to prosper or actually develop. He can change that. Anywhere else there would be optimism that this better-than-anticipated finish would signal genuine forward progress next season. Instead though, our own bleak take is that we'll be firmly back along the also-rans. Something desperately needs to change

Jackie Broon
Also, although they publicly walked away in July they obviously came back after that because deal was potentially going to go through in early September.

English Football has as much (almost) to gain from this as we in NUFC do.

ToonArmy1892
But they won't be because they clearly run the gaff, something proper would have happened to them by now if not. They tried to murder English football and literally nowt is happening about it. Edited June 6, 2021 by ToonArmy1892
ToonArmy1892
This is the main reason i'm still doubtful about the takeover, no punishment for the clubs that opposed our takeover and wanted the ESL. Edited June 6, 2021 by ToonArmy1892

I'm of the same opinion but can't envision how that plays out..... PIF can't just "return" and the PL just applies o&d test and it's passed. That would raise some eyebrows. Surely there would have to be some kind of pretence where it's "disclosed" that PL were after abc evidence and PIF were like "oh, we thought you meant xyz, no probs, here you go" Like i said, don't see how the PL save their reputation here. Maybe they don't. personally i would love to see the fuckers burn.

Be worth it though as really the vast majority of the Ashley ownership has been an absolute gutter. One season of 5th all to show for any level of partial success. Even under Rafa I thought it was mainly shit (I stopped going after the relegation season), as the lack of investment meant that Rafa was usually having to plan with players nowhere near the top of his wanted target. I’ve finally made the decision to not watch any games (even though I can) if Ashley and Bruce are still in charge. Can’t stand another season of just nothingness and no hope. nufcjb
What do people want first if this really happens? Me, I'd want Bruce to be sacked immediately with some Saudi pocket money and pair of tickets for him to whenever Joshua vS Fury takes place over there and Rafa to come straight back home. Ben
Rafa in with a massive year of changes to the structure and facilities of the club a few players in with probably a couple more if available in January and a big push next summer.

There'd be a morbid fascination in watching him flounder and blunder around, once he's working for an owner who expects him to do his job properly. I think i'd enjoy seeing him crumble under the pressure.
