Think a handful of people on here who work in Saudi have mentioned they're slow at absolutely everything.

When the funds outside of PSR are such, aye, I mean I’m massively happy but just pointing out some things, as others are saying, could progress a little quicker? Surely nothing wrong in wanting the best for the club.

I've seen this argument made a lot over the past year or so and in my opinion it makes no sense.

 

So we hold off on a potentially lucrative sponsorship deal in the hope that something changes to allow an even more lucrative one? Let's say we miss out on CL football next season. It'll be at least in part due to lack of squad depth and it'll cost us probably £30-40m+ (someone can probably come up with a more accurate figure). That decision to turn down a £10m/year sponsorship in the hopes of it being a £20m/year deal in the future doesn't seem so smart then does it?

 

As far as waiting for the Man City case - if the PSR stuff gets thrown out then it won't matter what deals are signed at the time, the gloves will be off and (if the owners want to) the money will flow uninhibited.

Still got no idea why we haven't just done a series of 1 year deals (on everything) while all this gets sorted. Just renew it each June depending on what the rules are, gradually hiking it up year on year while the PL legal bullshit sorts itself out

I agree. If the APT 2 case goes in favour of City then potentially open season for us.

Aye, I really wish they would hurry up and deliver something. You know, like a trophy or Champions League football, or something like that. Just something for the fans to grasp on to, to show that we're making progress. Even a world class striker or midfielder would be nice.

I sympathise somewhat with the argument that things related to stadium and training ground appear to be moving a bit slowly (even realising if in the real world these things always take a lot of time), but the underlying expectation behind all these sponsor/PSR related frustrations is that our owners, or indeed any owners of our club, should be willing to spend unlimited amounts of their own money to help us compete with the likes of Liverpool and Man City asap. Why exactly is this? Is this a PIF specific thing? Would the same expectation have been heaped upon any owner following the dire Ashley reign? Me, I'm just happy that we have owners who seem passionate about the club, appear to have an above level of intelligence and are wiling to invest in the club to help it grow into meeting their amibitious targets. I think it's perfectly sensible that they try to not fully turbo-charge our growth path the way the PSG owners have done, but rather look for sponsorship opporunities outside of their own business portfolio too. Ultimately this club should be able to compete at the top in a more or less self sustaining manner so it can benefit long term and not just fall apart when these owners move on. Besides, they are still overachieving on their own targets in most if not all areas, so why do people feel they owe us any more than the brilliant support and direction they're already giving us..?

I do a lot of work in Saudi and fully agree, but have to add that if they really want something, they want it done in unrealistic timeframes, ie yesterday. An incredibly frustrating place to do business, especially when it comes to invoices being settled, regardless of the size/liquidity of the organisation.

This has nothing to do with it. I've been keeping track of those 4 factors for long time. My post was actually triggered by the further delay to the new training ground which is inexplicable imo.

I'm talking about fine margins. Our inaction particularly around sponsorships is one of the reasons why we have a thin squad which can't play 3 times in a week. 

 

If you think they aren't slow on these matters or couldn't do more that's total fine though.

The items I've listed have been on the agenda for a long time things our rivals are doing which we aren't and it's putting us at a disadvantage.

Just to add - they could actually have got their ‘related party’ sponsorships inflated initially, rejected by the PL, then agreed at a lower price, knowing that if Man City succeed then they could backdate and potentially take action against the PL

 

We shouldn’t be surprised as others have mentioned, KSA is like any other dictatorship; inefficient, slow and not particularly good at paying the bills on time
