Yeh - unfortunately.

It's a bit late but they should've insisted we were invited to the CWC. I've long thought Saudi should throw their own competition pay megabucks to 8 clubs and invite us.

But I don't think they care about us to that extent.

I know the people in Newcastle consider NUFC the center of the(ir) world, but it is not actually, you know, the center of the world. PIF will do loads of things in the interest of PIF, as they probably should. We can barely say they've treated NUFC badly since they took us over now, can we..?

I think it means we are fucking back.

It means our owners are spunking a billion on a joke tournament and pouring an additional £100m into the coffers of Man City and Chelsea - which in Chelsea’s case will help with their FFP woes

I'm pretty sure the prize money was published well before PIF became involved as a FIFA sponsor like. I'm not sure how this can be construed as bad news for us. If anything it means FIFA will have a financial dependency on our owners for the next decade and be naturally more inclined to act in their interest rather than against it.

Absolutely not, they've been fantastic for the club.

However, nobody made our (and PIFs) Chairman go on camera and say he wants us to be "Number One". If that's the goal then great, go out there and prove it. Don't give 9-figure sums to some of the teams between us and #1.

You can both be delighted and grateful for what they have done for the club and hope for more.

I'm fairly certain Amanda and Al-Rumayyan have both stressed that to become number one won't happen overnight. They've also made it clear we'll play by the book and try to outsmart rather than outspend the opposition. We're three years in and have gone from being a perennial yoyo club threatening to go down again to qualifying for CL twice and winning our first domestic cup since most fans were born. How much better could we be doing?

You advance a compelling argument.

As I said, it's perfectly reasonable to say that 90% of what they've done has been positive but have a desire to crack the remaining 10%. I also don't think there are many managers out there who could have achieved what Howe has achieved after three transfer windows without a first team addition.

Of course, PSR has been a massive issue but look at sponsorship - Sela, Adidas, Noon, all great. But we've made no movement on other opportunities eg. training ground, training kit. Even £2.5m/year for each of those would more than cover Isak's proposed pay rise. It's nearly nine months since Eales announced he was going to step down and we still haven't got someone in. Some things we do move at a glacial pace.

Again - pointing out areas where we/they could do better doesn't mean I don't appreciate/respect what they have done. If our ambition is to be #1 then that's what it's going to take - with the rules in place to stop us, everything we do is going to have to be near enough perfect.

What Howe achieved this season under the circumstances has saved them from some deserved question and criticism imo.

Silverstone made some very fair points on the training kit, but you'd think with two CL qualifications in three years, I wonder if now would be a decent time to strike.

It was that long ago I read anything about it can you remember enough to paraphrase?

Things taking time etc at a fan board meeting maybe a year ago is the last time I think I remember they had desire for a training kit sponsor?

Aye, it was about a year ago.

He basically said it's quite complex. They don't want to lock themselves into a deal that doesn't work for all parties or put a value on a sponsorship that doesn't max out our potential (paraphrasing).

I'm far from an expert in the field, so no idea if that stands up to scrutiny or not.
