He rates Wilson from the past obviously, but I guess he’s still here because he had a great period of form just at the time he was most likely to be sold. That led us to prioritise other positions. And he was never a starter anyway, that’s why we bought Isak. Edited October 20 by AyeDubbleYoo

Kanji
We attempted to sign Olise and Elanga, and Minteh was supposed to also be a replacement. Don’t forget that.
Ikon
If we tried for both Elanga and Olise I’m not sure we know what type of player we want. Elanga is an entirely different type of player. Also the type that I do not want us to go for.

Spot on - just a smarter club and manager than what we have. Hoping Mitchell will change our fortunes but I'm not exactly holding out hope.

I fear the power structure behind the scenes is all fucked up with Eddie in the mix. I know it bothers people when that gets said, but I think having two alphas vying for power with different strategic visions is a recipe for disaster. January very well may prove me wrong and Eddie and Mitchell may prove a formidable team if they can put their egos aside and make some real progress

Dr Jinx
For a DoF to work effectively, he has to have his own person in charge of the team. Howe is not his appointment obviously and despite the public comments, I won’t be convinced that Howe wants that person/position in place. So if that is the case, how can it ever work? Ashworth got rid of Hughton straight away at Brighton despite doing ok for them. Now they follow a structure. As for Howe, my feelings on the topic are well stated so I don’t need to add to it.. I think maybe a few more are coming around to my way of thinking looking at the comments.

Can we compare to them in terms of quality of players to move on? No idea about Villa but I don't see a lot of clubs lining up for our players. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but selling a few players after we finished 4th was the time to push on. Wilson and Willock would have been prime candidates but were they already injured by the end of that season?

Luiz, who was central to their squad, just a few months ago, which in turn funded a ton of new business for them.

And we know the fallout. Olise was a genuine attempt. Elanga was part of the Anderson deal and they said no. And then we tried again on deadline day to no avail. We don’t know the type of player we are targeting there I agree. I’d love for an Olise style. A proper technical right winger who can do a bit of it all. Emphasis on the creative more than all. Do we love our players more than other club’s then or do we get too attached to them? Knowing players come and go? A massive hypothetical situation, along with some odd assumption about our fans being less accepting of players leaving. Villa have traded well and I don’t think we have, yet. But they did seem to have sellable assets early on like Grealish and then recently, Douglas Luiz. Where they had quality cover for the position. They have even moved academy players/done a PSR fiddle, as well, I think?
Heron
I think folk sometimes forget how run down we had been by Ashley like. Eddie Howe has been an absolute magician getting half of the existing squad to Champions League football and a cup final.

Grealish 100 everyone knows about but then also Chukwuemeka 20, Kellyman 19, Iroegbunam 9, Archer 19 (and then again the year after), Aaron Ramsey 15m. Just read we have the 4th most proftable academy in England, and the 19th in the world. It makes a massive difference - even Man City who seem immune to financial concerns understand how important it is, and do it.

Shays Given Tim Flowers
Yeah and you can see how much we have tried to improve ours in terms of potentially saleable assets but it doesn’t just happen overnight. It’s also hyper competitive.

He did a phenomenal job but let’s not pretend he built a side that didn’t have the same deficiencies as ours does now - on a totally different scale obviously because of the respective budgets and ambitions. The implication was it’s surprising we’re often so poor on the ball because at Bournemouth his side (in context) excelled at that. That’s what I disagree with. And on that note I really don’t think at this point the job he did at Bournemouth can be used favourably in any discussion about the future. We know the great job he did wasn’t a fluke and in 3 years we’ve seen how and why he managed to accomplish all he did there. At this point we need him to show capabilities he’s never shown before. Geogaddi
It's such fine margins , Gordon scores that penalty against Everton and Isak scores that chance to put us 1 up on Saturday and we are sat joint 3rd with Arsenal and Villa .

We have played a fair chunk of the season and are not scoring goals whichever way you want to look at it. That's after a fairly easy start as well, so I don't think we should avoid any inclination to sugarcoat it. There's been some sloppy points dropped against lesser teams, we'll now have to beat better teams to make that up.
