it's easy to find players better than those two - my point is it's not easy to find the Brunos/Botmans for £40 mil

Too many excuses I'm afraid.

So it's easy to improve on those two but we have refused to do so? Why?

If we're finding it so hard to find good players at £40 million then our scouting isn't good enough.

We were in the Champions League last year and could have easily competed for both Kudus and Palmer for that price and were never even in the picture.

If Howe kept on saying there was only a small pool of players that could improve us, and then only seemed to focus on a few players when the window was open, how was he shafted during the transfer window?

We weren't able to tie up the Tosin deal and focused on Olise even when Bayern and Chelsea were involved, and didn't manage that deal either. These moves were both prior to Mitchell coming in.

Then came the Guehi and Elanga debacles, with still so much time to look elsewhere, but apparently these two were part of the small pool, and so we only focused on them even though the fees were sky high.

Don't understand the narrative that he was somehow shafted.

Olise and Guehi were smokescreens to say we tried to buy, we just didn't have the will or capacity to spend money this summer.

When we've had money, we've spent it under Howe.

Oh well if it’s not that easy let’s just not try then. We spent too much time and effort on a few players who it was very unlikely were ever going to come to us anyway. At least we’ve had success in this market before

We actually tabled a bid for Guehi, that’s a dangerous smokescreen

We also met the release clause for Olise, which is why we were allowed to speak to him.

Smokescreen and refusal to spend money is yet another excuse.

First 10 minutes, showed Chelsea's big dangers.

Howe still didn't change anything to stop it.

That's the main issue for me. It's like the game plan is the game plan and we don't dare deviate from it.

No excuse, when money has been there under Howe, it's easily been spent.

Take a step back, PIF didn't spend any money in the summer on transfers, refused to exploit loopholes to get more money into the club, no progress at all on the stadium or training ground even though the decision on the stadium was "imminent" and Saudi clubs spent no where near what they did in the previous summer.

You can make valid arguments in each point above but when put together you can see a clear pattern that PIF took a step backwards from football.

Maybe they're taking time to decide what they want to do in football and have a joined-up strategy as they have Newcastle, Saudi League and now the World Cup.

I’d give Howe until the end of the season no matter how bad it gets, and then judge in the summer. I’ve already written this season off, I think the best we can hope for is mid-table mediocrity. It’s not so much the results, but the performances have been largely uninspiring.

This is the first really sticky patch he’s had as our manager. He needs to show he is capable of turning it around, and he does deserve that chance to try and do so. He’s earned it.

Transfer business is killing us, we’ve carried the issue at RW for years, now we need a striker and investment in defence. Still no one carrying the can for the disastrous summer.

Problem with RW is that it’s now digging in to 2-3 years worth of transfer spending. If we bought one last summer instead of Barnes, then we could easily have went out and got either a CB or FW/ST that we needed this summer.

We now go into the summer (assuming we will do no major business in January) needing at least 1 CB, a CM/CDM, a ST/FW, and a RW. That’s before we even sell anyone.

Does feel like we're doing the same things every week and it just isn't working. Part of that is on the board for not investing in the side for a year, but his lack of willingness to try a different formation or change that horrible flat midfield three is getting starker by the week. If he's not worried for his job now, he should be.

Lost faith in him now.

Defensively he doesn’t give a shit, and for the level we aim to be at, we can’t afford to act like that.

Tindall sorts the defence. Howe has said himself he’s more of the attacking half of the management team.

Falls down to Eddie though as he’s the manager/head coach.
