For me the last couple of games we've had both and that makes me feel happy. Prior to that we were getting either one or the other, and sometimes neither. From what I saw over the last few days we have the parts to build an effective side, we just have to put them together in the right order. Yeah, for the first time in a long time we've a) performed well b) got the results, and c) achieved them in replicable ways, rather than 30 yard shots, unforced mistakes or throwing the kitchen sink. Definitely. While throwing the kitchen sink can be exciting, it doesn't inspire confidence when you get left open on the counter. I've seen this change in the last two games, the gap between midfield and defence seems to have closed in a healthy way. I don't mind conceding a bit of possession as long as we are using the ball well when we have it. We looked compact on Wednesday and yesterday, and using different defenders and midfielders without affecting that solidity bodes well for the rest of the season. PopeandGlory Posted Sunday at 19:15 Share Posted Sunday at 19:15 Got it ticking again yesterday. The last 2 have been almost like watching us 2022/23. Pressing, go a goal or two up and then see out the game with a solid defensive performance and shithousery. Other than Liverpool we’ve got a reasonably favourable set of fixtures coming up until Boxing Day. Lets hope this continues.
soyt Posted Sunday at 20:21 Share Posted Sunday at 20:21 (edited) It is funny how every time you seem to start having a bit of a doubt about Eddie, he comes up with the answers. I was too really unsure about Burn and Longstaff starting, but all the managers decisions were spot on and fully vindicated. It is simply a treat to beat Arsenal. What we need now is to keep this up more consistently and then get some solid reinforcements in January. Edited Sunday at 20:23 by soyt

andycap
Only thing that bothered me about the arsenal game was leaving isak on all game again, use osula to save his legs please eddie we don't want him pulling up when he's starting to find form.

andycap
We took Willock and gordon off when they where blowing just wish he had a bit of faith in osula for 10 minutes or so to safeguard isak.

I think he will cause teams problems late on. He’s a big strong lad and has some speed too. I don’t quite get why he isn’t coming on more regularly to save Isak some gas. And was duly called a position change nonce for my suggestion. Er what? Nice try but lets not rewrite history Quote Posted September 1 On 01/09/2024 at 15:46, KaKa said: I'm putting that on Howe. Should have just put Barnes on the right as he looked better than Gordon there last game, and he's the one that is wanting to play and so should be fine to make the sacrifice of playing there. Poor decision. Quote This is such a waste of my time. It's also Gordon's better position. Sacrifices have to be made because the club are apparently incapable of finding a right winger. If Gordon is the one that has started slower this season, I think it makes more sense to play him where he is more comfortable. Barnes looked just as dangerous on the right last game. At the very least they should have swapped at times, but whatever! Quote Gordon was better when he went to the left against Forest and again today. Barnes looked great both sides against Forest, and in particular was combining very well with Livramento on the right. This is not rocket science. I think we have to follow a similar approach as the last two games and show some patience. As long as we don't leave ourselves open at the back, we can win any game over 90 mins. Keep it 0-0 as long as necessary then hopefully take our chance when it comes.
KaKa
2 hours ago, jonny1403 said: Er what? Nice try but lets not rewrite history My friend this whole thing has been a huge saga, which you've pulled posts from the middle of. It started with Gordon playing on the right in order to get Barnes on the pitch, and keep Miggy and Murphy off it. Gordon then started the season poorly and there were then discussions about whether he was annoyed about having to switch positions with how well he did last year. I then said perhaps they should alternate as they did at Forest, where Barnes actually looked good on the right and combined well with Tino. And in fact maybe we needed to give Barnes a run on the right to determine the best combination to get both performing well. I have no reason to lie about this at all. If you want to find the earlier starting point you can search @Conjo's highly inappropriate position change nonce post for which he should forever be ashamed and embarrassed. Especially with Gordon now playing on the right to the benefit of the team Edited 4 hours ago by KaKa

After that it was just a debate over the finer points. I remember because bleating about our RW and the crapness of our attack was a lonely place until a few weeks ago
