I don't know if the Jan window is a point in time where the board forces a decision on themselves. Howe will want specific players, and if that doesn't align with the board, then the decision to make a change will most likely happen. I also think if Howe doesn't get the players he wants, it becomes a standoff creating a bigger divide. One things for sure, we can't buy Howe players and sack him in the summer. Well be spending years loaning the likes of Kelly out at our expense, we could do without another one or two of them.

When we sell a Bruno or Isak I don’t trust him (if he has a say) to spend well. Can’t believe how bad Kelly looked the fact we are still playing Murphy the fact we signed barnes instead of a right winger with about 5 options on the left And Howe wanted Tonali (55m), but would rather play Longstaff. Playing at home against a deep lying defence we haven’t got a fucking clue, only 2 shots on target tonight tell the story. We've seen it in too many games this season. Push high, lose possession through poor control and get cut to ribbons on the counter.
Yorkie Posted Monday at 22:18 Share Posted Monday at 22:18 I'll always defend him but there's no denying that - in terms of trying to impact the game positively - he totally shanked it tonight. On another night, the individual errors don't happen and the onus isn't suddenly put on him to tactically manoeuvre our way back into it. I can't blame him for Kelly's defending or Gordon's sitter. But the second half was a complete mess. We started very well and the general identity of the team is still in his attacking, high-pressing, play 'til we die image - and that'll bring far more good nights than bad. But I can empathise with those wondering if this is still moving in the right direction. The mitigation is of course in the fact we didn't back him in the summer. The most worrying thing is breaking the SJP illusion. We've been nigh on unbeatable here but just been made to look very ordinary by a decent-not-special team, not long after being beaten by another close rival. That's not good for him. midds Posted Monday at 22:18 Share Posted Monday at 22:18 Not simply the loss that's concerning it was the manner of it. Yet again the whole thing turned into a mess and it's happening a bit too often to pass it off as just another one of those days. His players/forwards let him down and chances should have been taken but the shape was completely off, play was sloppy, basics were poor, defending was disorganised and by the end of the game they looked clueless. Their goals came at bad times for us but it's up to the manager to get the focus back and change things to have a positive impact. The changes tonight made it worse and worse. I'm back to fearing for him again after than, that was a horrendous day at the office for him
tinoasprilla Posted Monday at 22:18 Share Posted Monday at 22:18 It was the same last season one pass often taking the whole midfield out. We are regressing not progressing. Whoever chased Guehi all summer needs the boot us the ass

It’s not the criticism it’s the hysteria that he somehow needs to be sacked/will never learn/awful at defending corners (1st time we’ve conceded from one this season tonight I think). I can see the criticism but it’s the range of we’re class straight to fuck my life Lloyd Kelly is Boumsong. I don’t know how people get by day to day if they can’t see some form of grey between black & white.

Exactly not sure how anyone can keep giving him a free pass when it comes to the midfield, it’s been a shambles for months and he clearly has no idea how to integrate Tonali again this season. Crimson Cardigan Posted Monday at 22:21 Share Posted Monday at 22:21 Lads he hasn’t been given a signing in two windows. There is plenty of mitigation. We’re also living in an era where nothing clubs have trophy winning managers. Tonight was insanely frustrating with poor performances all over and Howe made some bad calls. But West Ham were also incredibly fortunate at crucial points and we didn’t get a single break. Paqueta only seems to bother playing against us, and he shouldn’t really be playing at all. It was a clear penalty. Gordon and Isak have to score those first half chances. There are issues, but Howe deserves time (and signings)
buzza Posted Monday at 22:23 Share Posted Monday at 22:23 Sean should have been hooked at half time, why he waited another 15 mins was beyond my logic. Tonali wasn't that much better but it should have been done earlier

People are passionate about the club and want to vent their frustration, and that's fine, let them crack on. I'd much rather that than people continue with the whole "I'd never ever ever get rid of him" as if they'd be happy to see us finish 17th with no questions being asked whatsoever because how dare you question Eddie Howe. And Howe has had six windows to ship players out - and has clung onto them. You can’t always buy if you don’t sell. He’s spent a hell of a lot of money. Good transfer dealings aren’t just about who you sign, but who you sell - and when. Howe deserves this season, but I wouldn’t be handing him more signings without improvement tbh. If we don’t qualify for Europe he’s gone I’d think. edit: this is harsh on Howe I admit, but in an era where ‘nothing clubs’ have trophy-winning managers, we don’t have one. Which does create an issue re how much time you give without the trophy-laden track record to cling onto. And others only seem to pipe up when we lose. Isak and Gordon had multiple guilt edge chances again tonight and missed them all again. At least Isak can excuse himself overall because he's had a spell of form, but his finishing was still terrible tonight, and Gordon’s has been a joke all season. People knock xG, but it's generally indicative of chances being created. We've had a draw and 2 losses now where our general play has created enough to win and our finishing has let us down. It's a problem, but I don't see much with our creation that points to Howe's approach. Edited Monday at 22:33 by Kid Icarus
Jonas Posted Monday at 22:32 Share Posted Monday at 22:32 Its always whether Tonali or Longstaff/Willock should have started or come on. Or Murphy or Almiron or Barnes come on earlier or started and Gordon brought on but its the same stuff moved around the plate at the end of the day. There's no combination is going to guarantee a performance or result with what we have. Even if we could theoretically play the same best team in practice we couldn't and it'd need changing. 6 minutes ago, Myleftboot said: I’m not convinced he was a Howe signing. Me either. Amir_9 Posted Monday at 22:35 Share Posted Monday at 22:35 (edited) For me his subs/game changes just scream panic rather than tactical nous by this point, in a season where he's needed to change things very often when they aren't going to plan And sadly, they haven't made a difference. Brighton game mk-II tonight and doubt it'll be the last time we see something similar this year. Even some of the lesser teams know how to play against us and get something/make us look like playing all night and never scoring. If we don’t qualify for Europe he’s gone I’d think. We did. A free replacement for Dummet and a kid from Sheffield Utd. Nowhere near enough for a side challenging for Europe given the strength of the league. it doesn’t seem to be Howes job to “ship players out”. Maybe I’m wrong but we’ve had one semi serious bid for Trippier and that’s about it. We don’t have saleable assets. By all means criticise the subs today which seriously backfired but Howe has been let down too. Edited Monday at 22:39 by Crimson Cardigan
Ikon Posted Monday at 22:39 Share Posted Monday at 22:39 I also don’t like that we didn’t really make any proper signing this summer. Having said that, let’s not forget that we had players on the bench worth close to 200m!
