I'm not saying I want a change of manager but Eddie needs to sort this out sharpish . Far too many games when we look absolutely clueless as to how break a team down and he just starts chucking subs at it. His read on trying to get us back into last night's match was way way off. This season Fulham, Wimbledon , Everton, Brighton and now West Ham have come away with decent results because we've not created or taken enough decent chances. Howe in the past has shown he's learned from his mistakes but this is a long standing problem that hasn't been solved or addressed. It's the arse end of November and we're coming into a key stage of the season. Eddie doesn't know his best 11. Still thinks Murphy can contribute something despite all evidence to the contrary. Hasn't been able to integrate Barnes and Tonali into the team and can't seem to get Gordon firing again, still crap on set plays and we're still very vulnerable through the middle on counters. Same problems lead to some of the same disappointing results. I'm hardly the most militant of supporters but it's starting to look like he doesn't know how to sort it and keeps doing the same things hoping players click and find form.

I still can't entertain any notion of replacing the manager, not least because I feel like the pool of people who would represent an improvement is incredibly small.

There some concerning signs for sure this season, but I still think we look a good team on the whole, and the identity of the side is still recognisable: we're still a team which is set up to press and create lots of chances. The biggest issue all season has been that we haven't been clinical enough; that's a recipe for dropped points when every opponent apart from Southampton has a lot of quality.

As long as the players still believe in the manager's ideas then we shouldn't even be considering changing. We've had two great seasons on the bounce (bollocks to you if you think last season wasn't class) so he's earned the right to find the solutions, or keep at plan A until it works.

And like I keep saying, it's a season that could be defined by the cups. It would be heartbreaking if he wasn't at least given another shot at the Carabao Cup.

Your first sentence is the key here. Absolutely no one realistically out there we could get even if we did need to make a change.

You'd probably be looking at foreign managers that are out of work. Potter would be a sideways step at best. If and when we replace Howe it has to be an upgrade/elite but I couldn't give you any names that are that without a load of research into it.

Considering when Bruno joined he was played further forward, and was much more influential as far as scoring and assisting, I just don't understand why we don't do that more when the team is struggling to be more incisive.

Very very disappointing.

This feels like the answer

Aye, I’ll be honest I wouldn’t trust the club to go out and get an elite manager tbh.

Would've been Poch if he wasn't so eager to get back into management I reckon

Reckon he'd have settled for a club that needs to sell before they can buy? (apparently)

Neither tbph. Tuchel would've been ideal had he not taken the Ingerlund job, if we're speaking hypothetically making a change this second. Managers such as Conceicao and Terzic I don't know too much about. Are they elite? I'm not sure. Would Allegri come here and manage outside of Italy for the first time? Is he elite still? I doubt the club would even go for him. If the club went for Potter we may as well just stick with Howe.

I'm struggling for names outside of them. Bearing in mind I am just thinking of those out of work atm.

It looked to me like Murphy was given the instruction to just cross the ball into the box at every opportunity.

He did that tbf, and they were decent instructions considering any attempts at doing more than that saw him lose the ball. There was one point near the end where the ball was pinged to him and his attempt to control it ended up with the ball looping up into the air his touch was that bad.

Literally no excuse for not qualifying for Europe this season with us having a far lighter schedule than most the teams we are competing against for those positions.

If we don't qualify for a 2nd year running I think he'll be sacked, and tbf he probably should be*.

*Obviously if we won the League Cup for example that changes everything.

This.

I'm sick of seeing us play Bruno, our most creative player, as a defensive midfielder whilst Sean Longstaff, who is the polar opposite, is further forward. Joelinton too.

I've no idea if Longstaff or Big Joe can play as a DM, and tbh I don't really care. But I don't want Bruno there any longer. Our best times under Howe - the season and a half after he joined - had Bruno further up the field weighing in with goals and assists. We need that back.

He's pretty much always played as the deepest lying centre mid here ???

Longstaff has all the running and tackling skills required for a DM, but none of the skill. He wouldn't be able to resist the press effectively, he'd lose the ball, and he'd not be able to orchestrate from the back either. Ditto Joelinton more or less.

Bruno should be playing where he is every day of the week for me, he is never a 10, he is however someone who is, when on form, fantastic at creating shape of a game and playing through a midfield press, he isn’t though a true creative killer and never really, genuinely been a great goal threat or offered many assists

He doesn't have to be a 10 just to not be a 4.

Who do you think our "10" is now? We don't have one. We have a 4 in Bruno (Or a 6 if you're younger, maybe) and two central midfielders ahead of him. I'm not proposing he plays just behind the striker, I'm suggesting he simply swaps with one of the other 2 immediately ahead of him.

He plays way deeper now. Here's his heat map from last night...

I wanted to find the same one for West Ham 2 seasons ago but he didn't play that match. so I've found Chelsea at home which was around the same time of year 2 years ago instead...

Much higher up. That's where he used to play all the time, mainly in the opposition half rather than mainly in our half getting the ball off the central defenders all the time. Because where he is now, all he's doing is passing it to Joelinton or Longstaff who then immediately lose it.

He barely ever has a shot these days unless it's a long-range hit and hope borne out of frustration. You never see him in the box. Remember vs Leicester, him scoring a header from a cross? Just never happens now.  In fact here's the heatmap from that Leicester game, barely ever in his own half:

Look at his goals highlights from that season, he's never in those positions anymore. It's stifling us.

Shelvey used to sit at the base of midfield when Bruno first came in.

That only really changed after Shelvey left.

Sandro, Sandro, Sandro. Just play Sandro there.
