Moyes was clearly going stale there, and replacing him with a manager who hasn't done great so far doesn't disprove that. Most managers eventually run their course at a club. I'm not saying Howe has or hasn't, it's simply a fact that it usually happens sooner or later.

Yes we got robbed by the penalty decision, but we also got massively outplayed in 5 of the 6 games(although we defended well). Yes we got seventh, but we also only won 4 more games than we lost. And ALOT of the performances were just truly awful. Yes we had a couple of good games before these last 2 games, but before that we had a run of us being very poor in nearly every single one. We could have been third (temporarily), but we sure as shit didnt deserve to win today. The fact is that we are 10th and probably have gotten more points than we should have. Now i dont think most of us that are negative believe that Howe should be sacked asap, we just think that if things doesnt improve soonish enough that the writing is on the wall. Gordon was identified as a backup CF when he signed anyway. Well that's on the manager for not recognising that the 'back up' isn't up to the role. That is where Osula should be coming in..unless he genuinely was just a signing for signings sake. Even as a project player he's not going to be up to playing if he never gets any meaningful time and 15m is a lot to spend on a seat warmer in the dugout. Almost as stupid as the 70m (last i heard) spent on Vlachidmiousosos

Or has this ropey start to the season eradicated Howe's track record for developing players as well?
JEToon
Osula. I know because of PSR some think we need to buy players for 4 million etc but that’s a bit silly. He was 15 million, he’s cheap relative to the league he’s a project player signed to be developed it’s not that deep Either embrace a development model or don’t, he’s what it’s going to look like. But for a dodgy decision in the CL we might have gone through. There are a million ifs, buts and maybe. The fact is we’re crap at the moment and we’re getting what we deserve. The standard of performance and results are nowhere near good enough. It's up to the manager to sort it out, something he does not seem capable of doing presently. 0 shots against the team who were second bottom in the league is not acceptable. This is not a one off, I was fully expecting a response after Monday night, but that today was beyond unacceptable and the manager's comments after the game were quite alarming Edited 5 hours ago by et tu brute

Alberto2005
I really like Eddie, I want him to be the first manager to win a trophy with us. At the same time I'm starting to have some doubts about him for the first time. Maybe that's a little greedy, as we aren't doing too bad plus 4th and 7th placed finishes are impressive tbf. My concern is he seems very stubborn to one way of playing, and that makes me wonder if there's better out there.

I know he isn’t going to kick his players under the bus, but I don’t think they could’ve spat their dummies out if he criticised the collective performance. If he genuinely thinks that performance was decent then we’ve got big problems. I still think it’s too soon to talk about sacking him, but I wouldn’t exactly be up in arms if he was. I'm of the opinion it will be the owners who ultimately decide and I'm quite happy to accept that. Be interesting, as I think they will be definitely be looking for European football come the end of the season. Do they think Howe can bring that? If not do they want to change it before it becomes too late?
andyc35i
As much as I love the guy, you always got the sense that he was going to end up being a transitional manager. The guy that brings stability, changes our fortunes and gets us in the top half of the league. I think the owners would love him to be the man that brings success, but I can’t see him staying long term with how we’ve been playing more recently and our inability to evolve as a team

KaKa
The thing giving me the greatest concern is the team setup and who will be playing where going forward. This currently looks all over the place. A longer term view needs to be taken with the decisions being made currently. If the plan is to bring in a right winger for the first team, then decide who is going to be on the left wing for the first team long term from Gordon or Barnes and play them on the left, and then stick the other on the right as a temporary fix. Central midfield then needs to be looked at in order to figure out how best to get Joelinton, Bruno and Tonali working together tactically. Willock has shown that he is not going to be consistent or reliable enough to feature in the first team now. The indecision and confusion in the front three and midfield three is absolutely maddening. We need a consistent team that is being drilled to play together and build some rhythm and chemistry. Shaky results and performances are one thing, but it's the lack of direction for me really. If there was a clear team and direction we were working towards, it wouldn't be anywhere near as worrying, and you'd at least feel things would pick up soon. At the moment it just feels chaotic, and it's going to be very difficult to turn things around this way.

Is 10th place really considered ‘in the race for Europe’? By that token, Bournemouth are also in the race for Europe because they’re mid-table too? I’m all for a bit of optimism but that’s reaching a bit.

Not sure what the answer is with the personnel, but ultimately Howe has built a team based on power and pace and left us looking way short offensively. Scotty66
Remember when we were down 0-2 to Brentford and he changed to a 4-2-3-1 for that second half and we turned it around quite convincingly. We've hardly ever seen that system again have we? Thought that might be his reliable plan B but it doesn't seem like it. We went 4-4-2 against West Ham in the end so maybe he doesn't like it anymore. I do think teams are finding it easy to nullify us though. We set out the same every week and don't really give the opposition manager problems formation wise. Just mark Gordon,Isak and Bruno out of the game/ give them no space and / or sit deep, compact and force us out wide and we are heavily limited in what we can do. We can smash teams that come at us leaving space in the middle and allowing us to get in behind. That happened a lot during our Champions League qualifying season, but hardly anyone allows that now and I think the results reflect that.
