There is a major issue with short term ism in football. I do not want that to be our club. Unless we’re flirting with bottom 14th place it’s really hard to blame Eddie for all of the worlds problems when we haven’t made a single major signing in 2 transfer windows to improve our starting 11.  Is he deserving of criticism? Yes. All of those involved with the club need some of it. We seem to have lost the momentum this summer when we should have pushed on. But good, it’s time we all grew up a bit. Shit Halle s man. And anyone sitting here spending time arguing otherwise need to chill. I’m backing Eddie who deserves all of that whilst we have armchair experts on the internet (me included) thinking we have all the solutions. Fuck knows how to solve it. I   assume the experts at our club will sort it out. Players need to be held accountable too.

and for the millionth fucking time, it’s not always the manager, if we lose it always seems to be his and only his fault but if we win it’s a toss up between the individual player or him. Perhaps it’s both, perhaps it’s execution of the plan? Context matters. Patience too.

Fearing exits of our gems when we don’t make Europe misses the key point, those gems are failing us and they aren’t executing. As adult humans with brains here surely you can see that part too?

70m we spent on Vlachadimos?

That sounds like a load of bollocks to me like, sorry.

Also, £15m for a young striker who he believes has the talent to develop into a more regular starter isn't all that bad to be fair. Lewis Hall cost more and he's developed him well - he's been our best player this season.

Guess you missed how vlachadimos fee goes up every time he's mentioned?

Its consistency or lack of that will be his downfall. We could turn up next two games and play very well, but then it’ll all fall flat again and it’s been this way for last 2 seasons.

He had excuses last year with injuries and suspensions but he’s exposed this year and he’s been found wanting.

Other clubs around us have changed things up and have improved and it feels like we’ve stagnated on that side.

Exposed? He wasn’t allowed to refresh his squad in the summer, he’s lost a big character and our main creative base in Trippier and we’ve fluffed our lines a few times - Gordon’s penalty miss at Everton. Think we’ve been more unlucky than anything tbh.

We’ve also only mustered two shots in target in the last two games, two teams that are both sitting in the bottom six. You’re right - if that penalty had gone in then things would be different but I don’t think the season as a whole could be classed as unlucky as a few of us were saying “I’ll take those three points after that performance” at times. I’d say we’ve rode our luck quite a few times to be honest.

Yep, no complaints from me on that score. To think we were within grabbing another 3 points from yesterday's game is insane. A lot of our early games were like that.

Latest Eddie quotes in The Athletic…

“What is the single most important thing for a football club? Is it the stadium? Is it the team? Is it the turnover?

It’s the people, investment in people. My proudest moment here wasn’t when I increased xG by seventeen per cent, or cut expenditure without losing a single member of staff. No. It was a young Greek goalie, second job in the country, hardly spoke a word of English, but he came to me and he went, ‘Mr. Howe, will you be the Godfather to my child?’.

Didn’t happen in the end. We had to let him go, he was rubbish. He was rubbish”

I agree. To squeeze 19 points from a paltry 14 League goals is impressive but not sustainable. We've played 16 games in all comps and notched more than 2 only once (Forest A). Normally with these things the stats start to regress to the mean and level themselves out, there are clearly issues in the final third. He absolutely has been let down by some poor finishing but that happens, it's up to the manager to get the team playing in a way that creates enough chances to negate the poor finishing - it's extremely difficult but if they can't do it then they eventually get sacked

Don't think anyone could complain if we finished 6th/7th tbh. After the Arsenal game I even thought 4th wasn't out of the question. But that run of 3 games has been a blip so far this season, our current position of 10th looks pretty fair to me.

I wouldnt complain too much if we finished 6th/7th, not enough for him to get sacked atleast. Cant deny that i hoped for better at the start of the season though, considering we didnt have Europe to focus on.

I dont think 6th/7th is the direction we are heading for now though.

West Ham I agree inexcusable. But Brighton, we we're all over them, they won with a sucker punch. Followed up by Gordon’s pen miss against Everton and things would be looking a whole lot more different. 19 points in the 08-09 season would have us sitting pretty in 7th. Same for 19 points in the 98/99. Who’d have thought Brentford, Forest and  Fulham would hit this hot streaks? Btw in 08/09 game week 13, Hull had 21 points and finished 17th so anything can happen.

squad needs refreshing.

If the reports about january is true, it seems like we have to. Better than doing nothing imo. We need more balance.

Who would you sell?

Honestly thinking about it, it won't happen in january. And that would be a bad time to do it anyways. Who depends on the actual bids and what replacements that are available to us in the market.

Our season is basically broken down pretty equally like this imo.

Matches we didn't deserve anything from but did.

Matches we deserved something more from but didn't.

Matches where, win, lose or draw, we got what we deserved.

Very much swings and roundabouts so far.

could say the same for a lot of the teams in our quadrant. Spurs probably deserved to beat us, lost, beat City, draw to Fulham. Just the way the season’s going right now everyone’s taking points off each other and it’s too early to start making snap judgements.

‘Wasn’t allowed’ is a stretch mind.  Despite being completely fucked in terms of FFP (because Howe has been backed to the tune of c.£420m) the club still pursued his no.1 target past the point of reasonableness.  Then we switched to an insane bid for Elanga which was thankfully rejected.

Trippier’s been lost it seems due to a complete failure of professionalism.  Perhaps some better management might have helped?  I’ve no idea on that front, but could a different manager have produced a different outcome there?  Shitload of counterfactuals and ‘what ifs’ on that score.
