Iraola has howes number in my opinion and howe can't seem to alter his style to counter it.

I said before the match this week that I hoped he had found a way of stopping them from tearing us to ribbons.

I don't think you can blame Howe for our players passing to the opposition

No. There were too many individual mistakes. But we did look totally unprepared and like we had no clue how to deal with them or had any answers as the game went on.

It was like we weren’t ready for how they were going to play. A bit like how Leicester and Ipswich set up with suicidal tactics against us and it was as if they’d never watched us play before. We weren’t that bad and naive. But not far off.

Like others have said and I agree with them. This will hurt Howe. He will be trawling through footage between now and Southampton.  Plus we are slowly getting back to a game a week. So more work on the training pitch to work on some of the shite we served up today.

It isn't really about meting out blame as such (at least not for me) but more trying to make sense of what actually happened for things to go so badly today. I think the structure of the press from Bournemouth absolutely was a contributing factor to our players looking so poor on the ball i.e. a tactical issue.

Dan Burn alluded to as much in his post-match interview - "They set traps with the way they play. Their press is quite different to other teams and we played into it and suffered because of it"

Actually looking forward to our next meeting with these because there is very good reason to believe Howe will analyse the game down to the finest detail to work out how to put this right. I remember a similar game we had against Aston Villa in 2023, where it was equally apparent that we were tactically outmanoeuvred on the day and unable to find any answers. We've done very well against them ever since.

I think Howe’s problem sometimes is he cannot change system reactively when it clearly is not working. Today we couldnt play past their press and were giving the ball away a lot. Murphy was a FB occasionally and the ball kept coming back.

We should have changed it, go long behind or move Joelinton closer to Isak who was totally isolated.

Burn and Botman are poor on the ball and slow, and it showed today.

Sadly we have no options from the bench to mix things

Can honestly say there is not another manager I can think of I'd prefer over Howe.

Think a firefighter like Gerrard would be good until the end of the season if today is the start of a serious wobble.

Not you here. Clearly just being a bell aint ya. But Wormy keeps getting bites all over the forum. Quite apt with his name

Someone saying pre-game our midfield is our weak link.

Someone saying we need Wilson back as Isak was so poor today.

I can’t keep up. What is real and what is fake?! I blame AI.

We got well and truly tonked. I've been anticipating that for a while, which helps me not be too upset about it. No real issue, I think it was more about them being brilliant and we were never going to go 5-5-0 at home to them so imagining we would is a fool's errand. I was hoping they'd slow down but they never did.

There were no major surprises, they cynically targeted our key attacking presence (no complaints), the ref let them (yes complaints) and others like Joelinton and Murphy didn't have the technical chops to pick up the slack.

There's no need to throw the baby out with the bathwater. We can go back to playing very well against just about every other team in the league, and our next fixture ought to be the perfect reset button. Just learn what lessons we can from today and apply them to our next serious chance to better ourselves i.e. the summer.

Bournemouth had to put academy products on the bench because their squad has been hammered by injuries.  They’ve also played three games in the same number of days.  I don’t think it’s much of an excuse.

edit: their fixtures in that week were a decent West Brom side and Chelsea away - we had Bromley (and played a reserve team) and Wolves at home.  So fatigue isn’t the answer.
