We have needed a playmaker for three years now, the fact we still haven't got one is on the manager. This season the results and performances have not been good enough. He has to find another solution to Burn at left back also, as he is an absolute calamity in that position, both defensively and going forward

Who we got to come back in like ? Hall & Liva & a player who's never played for us in Wissa

Unless im missing something ?

Our midfield tends to get played through without a fit Joe or Ramsey.

Two weeks to prepare for that, I'd love to know what the fuck we were supposed to be working on. There's a pattern where the same old bang average mid table teams have our number every fucking season and he can't do anything to stop it. Welbeck will be scoring against us into his 50s.

Pushed hard for his man Elanga who looks like a fucking Sunday morning player for £55m. Unlucky with Wissa and Ramsey injuries and losing our first choice full backs at the same time, but you could argue that had Woltemade not had such a strong start we'd be in the relegation zone.

There's usually one of his trademark winning runs round the corner when we look as shit as this. I really really hope today was the equivalent of Brentford (a) last season and "the low" before we go on a run because this season so far has been an absolute chore in the most part.

We need players back in, and everyone fit. That’s the baseline for good performances out of this side in its current form. Joe and Ramsey being unfit at the same time against a Brighton is brutal.

I don’t think Joelinton’s up to it technically tbh. In addition to that him being unfit isn’t new, it goes under the radar how much of a crock he’s been last season or two.

We just need a bit of patience. It's pretty evident the attacking patterns are still a work in progress.

Obviously we need results sooner rather than later, but I have every confidence in Howe and the lads.

He doesn’t need to be up to it technically for a good standard transitional away performance as we’d have hoped for today.

We needed better fitter legs in the middle, we need to assert ourselves from early in a game like this and we just don’t have that ability right now. They attacked our left side without much danger of passing lanes being cut. It was uphill from the start.

We’ve gone backwards under him since tail end of last season. The rot has continued.

Look at our fixtures this season.

Villa (a) Toothless and playing against 10 men against a very out of form team for 30 mins.

Liverpool (h) Raised our game probably due to the crowd being so hostile and the players trying to prove a point, dumb sending off. Should have had a point, threw it away.

Leeds (a) Toothless again, no striker the excuse but again against a poor side.

Wolves (h) Poor performance but Wolt goal was enough against a very poor side.

Bournemouth (a) Poor again against a mid table team.

Arsenal (h) They played us off the park and although we scored first, we couldn’t hang on for even a point.

Forest (h) Ange.

Brighton (a) Awful again. Deserved nothing.

Our form overall is not what you’d expect from a team who qualified for the Champions League and who spent heavily.

If this was Steve Bruce or Steve McClaren the reaction would be very different.

Yes Howe has credit in the bank, but how many seasons are we going to just accept very poor runs of form like what we’re on now?

This game isn’t just a one off.. we’ve only beaten teams in the relegation spots.

I just wonder if the players are just fatigued by the effort put in over last few seasons and nobody who’s come in has seemed good enough to come in and give us a boost. We just look shot and devoid of ideas.

Answers on a postcard.

I think Brighton showed the value of having players comfortable in possession in midfield rather than pure physicality. They were able to run us ragged as a result and it’s been common in a few games this season now where we’ve offered absolutely nothing going forward for long periods.

Ayari was absolutely class for them and a player we really lack

We play with a flat 3 in midfield - it needs to change to either 2-1 or 1-2 - it’s not working and positionally leaves us open - added to this it doesn’t allow us to retain the ball

We've always been streaky under Howe. We're a side that badly needs confidence and rythmn and that's hard to find with such a summer of upheaval plus all the international shit. Confident it will turn around quickly, Wolte is a brilliant signing as is Thiaw and I think Ramsey will show it given a run without injury. We might be evolving a bit and patience is needed.

We have never set up to be a possession side with Howe, but we are heading that way now. We were lacking and off it, as has been the standard to start the season.

It’s not about pure physicality, it’s about having the players fit and available to execute the gameplan against a good side like them. It’s just not there at the moment. If our midfield isn’t there against Brighton we lose. Him bringing on Miley at 45 was evidence of the struggle, he never does that otherwise.

To be fair, I think Bruno and Tonali are both very comfortable on the ball, Joelinton and that whole left side was a big problem today, plus our usual inability to deal with that prick up top for them.

What do you see us evolving into? Genuine question as I don’t really see anything different.

The reaction would be different as they had zero history showing that things would change.  Howe has that in bucketloads.

I think we are trying to become a bit more possession-based and not as high-press and high intensity. Honestly not sure if we're committing to it or not for evolution purposes though, we may just be trying to learn the lessons of 2 years ago.
