Don't think it was the worst idea to sit back and protect the lead, but we just aren't very good at doing it these days. We usually defend ok, but when we get possession, we hand it straight back. It doesn't matter how good your defence is, if the opposition get the chance to keep battering at the door, eventually it will cave in.

I mean, even in the Everton game we sat off away after scoring early on, then had a spell where thankfully Pickford palmed in Miley back pass and we then ramped it up for the kill.

We struggle to take momentum from scoring 1st to 2nd this season. Just always dialling it back, like we want to be a counter attacking side. It’s as if we’re caught between two minds of how we want to play.

Spells of not having the ball is fine. I don't think we sat back after scoring against Everton either, we kept the pressure on and although they did have a period with the ball after that, the feeling was still very much that we controlled it. It's a marked difference from last night when an absolutely nothing team were still regularly getting corners and we never looked ruthless.

In isolation you'd call it a freak result tbh, they were honking and scored from their only 2 shots on target, but the pattern this season is that we're even vulnerable to that, never mind teams that cut through us. Hopefully Wissa changes things. Woltemade's a very good player, but so much hinges on him if like last night he's not playing well.

Eddie wasn't to blame tonight - got Subs spot on in 2nd half which gave us momentum to get the goal. Was slack defending/poor keeping which cost us.

Got the first set of subs spot on, then the Miley/Schar sub totally wrong. Ramsey was ready to come on before the second, then we did the same thing again and went all defensive. We’ve dropped points to West Ham, Brentford, Marseille and now Spurs with a similar mentality. We’re better than all of them but continue to make decisions that invite them on. If it worked, I wouldn’t care.

Well that's been a joyous read. Faith in human nature well and truly restored. In other news, last night's game brought our glorious leader to the same number of league games as Alan Pardew. The points per game (PPG) for Eddie, and co, are second only to KK.

After the Palace, at home, game on January 4th Eddie will have managed the same number of league games, in the Premier (-ship and -League) as Special K (both spells combined). Despite the 'folklore' about Keegan teams' defending and all out attack goal-frenzy, Howe's teams have already conceded 21 more goals  and only scored one less (7 fewer games). Even if we win all 7 games he still can't surpass a like for like points return, as the PPG will only rise to 1.73.

The remaining Premier era managers, who have at least a season's worth of games, are included for comparison/a laugh.

If things don’t massively improve I can see us only getting another 3-5 points before the end of 2025. We have a tough run of games after the break. Burnley at home is the only one I’m looking at thinking we have a chance there.

Maybe Wissa will change the dynamic completely but I just think, where is the service going to come from if the rest of the side doesn’t transform.

If we don’t sort it out this could be a likely set of results.

City (h) - L: WRONG, W (+3)

Everton (a) - L: WRONG, W (+3)

Spurs (h) - D: RIGHT, D (-)

Burnley (h) - W

Mackems (a) - D

Chelsea (h) - L

Man Utd (a) - L

Burnley (a) - L

Overall point differential (how wrong): +6

Yay, here's STM telling us how to react and feel again. Sound.

How about you stop making multiple embarrassing posts and I'll stop "telling you how to feel", which i didnt actually do.

You seem to know so little about football, you would think you would use the opportunity to learn from others.

Eddie Howe isnt a problem, there isnt a problem... apart from a few of our fans who've had a taste of the goodlife and have now become entitled.

We are a third of the way into the season and weve had largely mixed results. Get a grip of yourselves and calm down. The best manager weve had in my life time and you bump his thread at the first opportunity, because you dont know how to control your emotions.

Has he made mistakes, yes, and what? Sack him, whinge, cry, what?

Some idiot arsenal fans wanted Arteta sacked a year ago and im sure somewhere on a Man City forum, there is a "The Butcher" equivalent who whinges everytime Pep loses, like against us, or even nearly throws away a 5-1 lead, like last night.

Its football, its not easy. In my opinion, the right thing to do is back  the manager (this manager) and back the team to string some results together...

but you do you.

It's a fucking football forum:lol:

What the fuck is the point if you can't question decisions, tactics, subs, whatever the fuck?

I praise him when he does well and I question his decisions when it goes south.

Just like I praise the players when they do well.

You seem to think you're some kind of forum police, and have been for some years.

I've said in the same thread that he can stay as long as he likes and that talk of sacking him is crazy talk.

I'll put you on ignore and you do me. 👍

Mocking an individuals opinion, is not a suppression of an individuals right to have an opinion.

Without satire, or some people holding up a mirror, the lunatics end up running the asylum.

Edit: I wont be putting anyone on ignore because even if a disagree with someone, they still have a right to an opinion and im not afraid of seeing it. Also, someone who I disagree with on one topic, I might agree with on others. I often like posts from people who I largely disagree with on other things.

Murphy was at fault the most of anyone yesterday, one of his worst ever games.

We’ve always defended leads without the ball and sit back.
With more fatigue and not enough quality we are conceding goals late.

We needed to add more quality in midfield and attack to relieve a bit more pressure.

It sounds like scapegoating but the lack of contribution from Ramsey, Elanga and Wissa has been massive.

His connection on the ball yesterday was comical, almost every time he touched it he completely miskicked it. Multiple different ways too, skying it, grazing it, slicing it

A smorgasbord of blunders.

Could see in his eyes he knew he was shit too, looked like a broken man whenever the camera zoomed in after one of his many failed crosses.

One of the problems of Murphy is that his excellent right foot provides great quality in delivery, but his actual footballing ability is pants. So when it comes to giving up possession, he's one of the worst culprits.

We’ve known this yet his replacement is equally as bad at general football ability. That’s the killer.

It's actually to our detriment that Murphy played so well with Isak, otherwise he would've been peddled ages ago in the manner of Longstaff, for just being clearly way below the level we need.

Fair play to how he's bust a gut to make himself useful to the club though, I respect him for that. But he can't really play for us for much longer.

Kind of similar to how Miggy and Wilson played the best football of their career and convinced us not to bin them at the time we should have.

Well it doesn't look great but it's early days. I'm hoping Elanga is still finding his feet (literally) and we'll see him improve once he's had a few starts under his belt.

The plus is that we know that Elanga can be effective in the PL, just need to work out why he hasn't been for us yet.

Well I'm hoping Isak's groin turns out to be a chronic injury tbf, not really an apt comparison.

Ahh ok. I thought the majority of the board thought Isak had already flopped whereas Elanga just needs more time.

Isak's too good to flop if we are honest. What would be better is if his groin muscles have just debilitated beyond repair.
