I said the role they played was on the finance side, as in they drew the line on how much was spent during that period. Correct no? It's a guard rail of sorts. 

 

And again, my overall point is clear and often repeated until nausem. But I will do it one more time just for you. The manager shouldn't have any say over who is DOF football. The manager shouldn't have final say on transfers and the club shouldn't be employing the managers nephew.

How many teenagers are first choice for their teams, start regularly and play well in the Premier League? How many in the top 8?

 

There's literally maybe half a dozen in the entire division at any point in time. As of now... Josh King, Bergvall, Estevao (doesn't even consistently start), Yoro? That's 4. Only really Lewis-Skelly of last season or Mainoo the year before fit the description from the top of my head.

 

So yeh anyone expecting a teenager to start and perform consistently well in the PL is dumb. It's not reasonable or a standard.

So there was no 'guard rail' this summer on the finance side, then? Utter nonsense, man.

 

i don't even disagree on your other points, although the DOF one is way more nuanced than that.

 

Call it what you like, our incoming successes far (far) outweigh our failures. It just seems that Howe gets hammered for the Elanga one and successful ones are down to others.

 

No idea why, but thats how it seems to be.

 

Anyway, agree to disagree, I guess 👍🏻

We spent 55m on a 29 year old with just one good season behind home. 55m on a winger who can't even dribble. I'm not sure where the guardrail was but fuck me it wasn't half absent. 

 

And I agree with you the incoming success have been applauded and massively celebrated on here, I actually give Eddie massive credit not for giving them the nod. (Of course tonali is better than long staff for example) But the Eddie's ability to improve players is the quality which deserves the praise it rightfully gets. 

 

Re Elanga, I think Eddie's getting it in the neck because most people saw him see off the guy who said our recruitment wasn't fit for purpose and the fans backed Eddie all the way, then we end up doing thar exact same mistakes by overpaying for a player who went for 15m 2 years earlier who is pretty limited and not what we needed. 

 

I think the club has been petty clear from top to bottom that we can't afford mistakes on big transfers and so far this deal is the poster child of bad deals.

Wonder how he's feeling today. Hopefully broken. I want this to be a scar he carries for the rest of his time here, so it never happens again.

 

I surprisingly voted no to sacking him, but he has no credit left in the bank. He'll be judged game on game. It's in his hands now, let's see what he's made of. No excuses.

He's the best manager we've had in my lifetime (i'm 44), yesterday was rank and is rightly damaging.

 

But no credit left in the bank for a fella who won a trophy 6 months ago and has us with another shot of another one isn't half harsh IMO.

Agreed...and for every time I hear "Howe out" I rarely see a viable solution for who'd come in and be considered likely to evolve us...

Yeah.  He has lost a few coins, for sure.  But still money in there.

 

The overarching point is the away form.  Bar Everton, Union SG, who were utter shite and to a lesser degree, Leverkusen.  Our away performances have been rancid this season.  For most of 2025, really. 

 

The fact that yet another toothless display on the road came against our arch rivals and we lost.  Just magnifies it further.  

 

It's the away performances in general that are the big concern, for me.   Not the fact we lost in a shitfest to the mackems.  That neither team deserved to win.

Are people seriously saying he has no credit left? That’s crazy man. For me, the man always has credit. There will be a point where maybe I might say fair enough time to move on, and it will be in recognition that he’s taken us as far as he can…but he will always be able to cash out on what he’s achieved as far as I am concerned. Man is a legend of this club.

Yesterday amplified it massively, and will continue to do so.

I can’t see a scenario where I ever stop backing Howe. That’s down to his integrity, his cup win, the CL qualification and matches we’ve had in Europe as well as saving us from relegation. However, he is rightfully being criticised for things that are in his control. Gordon shouldn’t have taken Barnes’ spot. Joelinton shouldn’t get a free pass into the side whenever he’s fit or even half-fit. He shouldn’t have been given the licence to sign Elanga in the summer. This is all fair criticism
