He absolutely could have done. Lucas Neill nearly did him, I rmemeber Lampard caught him badly as wel, thats just off the top of my head. Any of those could’ve been a Ramsey at Stoke situation. That’s got nothing to do with genetics, sleep, diet or mentality, it’s just pure randomness in a contact sport. Ramseys injury at Leeds is a prime example. No amount of preparation, stretching, discipline or body composition stops that happening. It’s either someone smashes you/lands on you wrong or they don’t. One player can survive the exact same impact or twist without injury as someone else would break their leg from, or do their ACL. Obviously anyone can get a serious injury. However, the chance of a player getting seriously injured from a specific scenario also highly depends on the resistance of their body. How resistant they are also depends on a lot of factor, and some of them they can somewhat control. Edited December 17, 2025 by Erikse

If force didn’t come into it, then fair enough. But it does, massively. Ronaldo doesn’t have some magic body that stops bones breaking. Once an impact or twist hits a certain force, it doesn’t matter how 'resistnt' your body is, bones break, ligaments snap, and joints go. That’s why contact injuries are almost entirely down to luck. I agree with you on the soft-tissue side, lifestyle, recovery, biomechanics etc all matter massivley But with impact injuries, impact/threshold is everything. Cross it and anyone breaks. Stay just under it and you walk away. Lmapard is mentioned by TCD as someone with remarkable durability, even he broke his leg. It happens. That’s luck, not durability. We're going off topic a bit anyway, I don't know Ramseys injury histroy pre nufc in terms of types of injury, bot longstaff doing him at leeds is bad luck, nothing but. I said that the chance of having your leg break also depends on your legs resistance to that. Ofcourse everyone has their limit, but the limit is different for everyone. Sorry, I assumed you meant something a bit deeper than the fact everyone has different thresholds, that bit’s kind of a given. As i say, we've gone off topic anyway. 👍🏻

Not saying he could’ve. But over the course of an entire career, I don’t think most players injury situations are purely down to luck. Likewise with recovery. Is he giving it 100? Has he recovered 100% mentally? Ferguson and Klopp have questioned the mentality of injury prone players like Hargreaves and Sturridge. I think there’s something to it. But we're on about Ramey at Leeds this season here.
The College Dropout
There is something special about Ronaldo that has led him to play over 1300 professional games. It’s definitely not luck.

His whole career wasn't the point in discussion though 😂 I don't know what his injuries were at Villa, and i dont care. If he'd had a recurrence here i'd take the point, but he hasn't, so let's see how he does. The point was, it's too early to judge him, he has played the equivalent of around 4-5 games and has had a pretty nasty injury since signing for a new club, which is bad luck. You then said you didn't believe the luck part and off it went on to Ronaldo and Lampard etc. It is too early to judge Ramsey, my stance won't change on that. If you think differently, thats cool! But you won't convince me otherwise that his impact injury at Leeds was down to anything other than bad luck, no matter how many games Ronaldo played. LiquidAK
Yeah really hope the crowd are up for tonight. Feels like our season is on a knife edge, if we start slow we need the crowd to stay behind the team. Any boos or grumbles have to wait for after the final whistle, whether you think they're justified or not.

Pilko
Still plenty of work to do but that was a huge win that we just about deserved. Was always unlikely we went directly from the depths of Sunday to free-flowing champagne stuff. Really hope he can use that win as a platform to better performances and some more good results.
