Those backing him aren't pretending out of loyalty

It's based on his time here and him having done a very good job overall

Those backing him believe he can get us performing well again, obviously those wanting him out think otherwise

I still want him here next season, if however I don't see improvements on the issues that have appeared this season then I'll probably join those saying he's stagnated now

Ok, but I don't think they have appeared this season.  These issues have been their for seasons.  The way I've seen it for years is that Howe has big weaknesses and big strengths.  I've been hoping he could improve on the weaknesses, but I don't believe that's ever happening now.

They are crap, but even before the game I knew we would struggle agains them because they don't lie down.

We lack genuine quality so we couldn't beat them with that, and they have more fight and character so they will always win a battle.

I repeatedly used the word “composure” - we have none - always get caught up in the emotion - lose our identity, lose our shape, lose our ability to construct a move, lose our discipline

For Sunderland 2nd, we basically conceded the exact same twice v Man C in the cup

It’s been the same all season - nothing learnt - nothing resolved

We aren’t going to get any better but I have no idea what the solution is. Keep Eddie to coach the team and bring in someone who can manage an actual game? Would be radical but it works in some sports.

I'll go out on a limb and say he'll never manager a club bigger than us. Just too limited tactically for that to ever happen. He's best as an underdog, just like 95% of managers. It's not in his locker to control games with the ball like the best sides do.

He's overperformed for so long, but this year it really all came crashing down.

Really not sure where we go from here.

I honestly think resignation over further back-room issues is the only way he won’t be manager next season. If that’s sorted then I would expect a better summer and a decent season.

Sacking him would be pointless anyway unless the recruitment and executive people are completely ready to supply a new manager with better players. Otherwise it’s more likely they would do worse than Howe.

Counter argument would be that a change is a good as a rest.

As an example, the lad Boro sacked is doing a decent job at Man Utd. And I don’t think many would have predicted that. Froggy would have obviously, cos he’s never wrong.

Sometimes shit just goes stale under a leader and change is needed.

Man Utd did go through years of bad managers until they got a decent caretaker like, so maybe not the best example to follow.

Mitchell was a charlatan like - people shouldn't rewrite history.

The point I was making wasn't anything to do with Mitchell's qualities, it was that Eddie has had a huge say in our transfer business, and clearly wants ot that way, he can't be absolved from blame for how poor it has been recently.

The ownership does really concern me now. It's felt so vacant ever since Amanda left really. There's barely any communication, there has been next to no activity on any of the areas that would be helping us close the gap in terms of sponsorships, new stadiums and training grounds etc. Just feels exactly what people feared that they are very absentee owners.

With the shit in the gulf and all that carnage going on etc, you can imagine that pif's priorities right now aren't a football team in England that are just one of a boat load of companies in their portfolio.

It has the feeling of a failed experiment that has been defeated by the rules and regulations designed to protect the big boys and we're gonna settle back into being a mid table team once we are forced to sell our remaining jewels.

For anyone wanting him out, and I’m on the fence, the biggest question is, would you trust those running the club to act of a timely manner and get an upgrade in ?

I dont trust them. Im not even sure whos making the final decision. Hopkinson, Saudis, Reuben? But at the same time we have so many issues with Howe, we are all over the place. Its very start/stop. Manu and Chelsea solid. Barca and Sunderland honking garbage. Its really difficult to say.

4 years is a long Ng time for any manager/project.

We are stale, out of ideas and some major transfer errors are going to probably lead to his dismissal. This season has been a disaster from the summer. We've never got on top of the mentality problems, Eddie's game management is non existent and the home form that has been vital is gone.

He's just not competed with the teams around us or below us in an acceptable way.

I can see arguments for replacing him. People act like he's some shite, one note passion merchant every time he has a bad run though. This season's been bad and he takes the blame, but the lack of respect towards him is just shite to see (not from you).

He's not shite, but for a long time he's looked like a man completely out of ideas. Even his excuses now are just repeats of what he's said throughout the season.

Our most successful manager in over half a century. Performing miracles in cup and Europe with a squad that should be where it is in the league.

Big season next season for the scouting and recruitment team.

He's been here for four years, is the fact that squad is mid table now not on him too?

I could feel my finger hovering over it - it’s probably where I am

It's all gone too stale since winning the Carling Cup last season - coupled with the Isak business. Am not sure he can sort this out.

Guess we will see.

I've just voted that he needs to go. And I feel bad for doing so.

I was on the fence a few months back and I'm still on the fence now.
