In hindsight Guehi was probably the obvious answer. I'm pretty sure we'll start next season with Botman/Thiaw first choice.

Zero
I don’t think the article is objective to read. Howe has genuinely done a lot of wrongs and nothing was mentioned there.

Of course true, but the bigger picture is much more important. Hence why some of us seem like we're always giving these mitigating factors.

GEFAFWISP
Few things to take away from that; Edwards' sleight of hand when highlighting Wolt/Wissa (9 goals between them, it's 14 all comps) being shit in comparison to Isak (27 goals, all comps not mentioned). I mean the point stands but it sounds worse 27-9, as opposed to 23-9 or 27-14. Wissa is still a ham planet. Gordon being the one who's thinking about the World Cup, knock on is he loses a touch of match fitness due to his cowardice. Players being surprised at the intensity of the Mackem away game. That's wank if true, management team (and Dan Burn's) job to make sure they knew what they were getting in to. Eddie doing a bit of soul searching in February but Alan Patridge bouncing back more determined than ever...don't fuck this window up lad. The Prophet
Definetly a PR piece from Edwards, but some of the stuff about Howe's future ties in with Hopkinson's comments.

Sure, although I would argue that nobody has said it's guaranteed that we'll have a good season, more that Howe should be given a chance because of the bigger picture. I was more referring to the club and the owners anyway really, keeping a manager when a lot would jump straight to a sacking. Personally I acknowledge there's a chance we'll struggle, although I don't think it's likely as long as we refresh the squad a bit. A lot of what is said might be accurate and true, but it completely skips over most of the fuck ups Howe's made this season. As you say, if the players were surprised by the intensity of a trip to Wearside then the management team need their arses kicking for not preparing them properly for a local derby. If I'm being spoonfed the inside track of all of the difficult things Eddie's had to face into this season, I also want to see some acknowledgement that he handled things badly too many times. I'd like a bit of balance. The article has got about as much balance as Alan Barnes sharing a see-saw with John Candy. Need to remember where I saw this, but our backline is second only to Arsenal for fewest line breaking passes allowed. Problem is that our midfield allows the most or near to it. If we do well next season then the club will have been proved right. If we don't then they'll have been proved wrong. I suspect results in Aug & Sept will be the biggest clues as to whether Howe has learned from 25/26 or not. Time will tell and I'm not claiming to be Nostradamus, I think arguments for both keeping / sacking have strong positives & negatives.

I admit, Puke Edwards might have played me. I was tired when I read it and forgot about him being a club mouthpiece, mistook him for a journalist there. Bad mistake, won't happen again. That's my biggest fear for him. If we don't start like a house on fire, it will turn a lot quicker than it did this year. Not a position anyone wants us in, where he's under pressure every game and the fans are on their backs.
