Wonder what Hopkinsons thoughts are. Since giving that interview where he said he’s confident we will go on a run and finish the season strongly, we have taken 7 points from 7 games.

I think he's sucking his thumb and doing what he's told.

So Howe didn't save us from relegation? Heard it all now.

You think Tripps and Bruno would have signed for Bruce?

You think 38 points in 19 games - Champions League qualification form - from the day Trippier arrived (and we were five points adrift of safety) would have happened without Howe?

Absolute horseshit.

He didn't say that though he mentioned the transfers we bought in was the major factor of our form improving.

I reckoned we'd get four points in our run in I wasn't far off. 😂

That's something else to ponder. If there is a big turnover of players, how likely is it that Eddie will be able to gel them into his preferred formations or methods to get us off to a good start to the season? Given he's had all season with Woltemade and Wissa and we are still none the wiser come the end of the campaign?

He would need players who fit exactly into his system, ready to go from day one (PL ready! ) and then if it goes tits up, the next manager would have to use the same players for what might be a totally different system.

A massive risk. As is replacing him now imho.

It’s all a judgement call eh?

I’ve made my peace with Howe having the start of next season and can see the business logic in it from the ownerships standpoint. Just.

His credit limit is all but gone back to zero now in terms of current performance and, whilst he’s answered many of the questions this role has put to him so comprehensively, he now needs to answer another few;

1) Does he have the energy to go again?

2) Can he kill poor performers after one poor year (Wissa/Elanga etc)?

3) Can be manage a massive overhaul? Integrate them and have them ready for GW1?

AND if he does answer all of those challenges in the affirmative, how will he cope with 2 games a week again the following year?

I’m clear that anything less than CL next year would be unacceptable imho. One game per week. Get it done.

He's thinking he has a decision to make. That Ornstein article was written as if the decision had been made that Howe was staying but that wasn't the case.

You and me both. Didn’t do himself any favours with that media snippet.

On the question of Howe keeping us up, I wouldn't try to rewrite history on that one, yes we made some very good signings but I'm certain he would have had heavy input on those signings and as much as I think he's run his course here you cant deny that fuck you mentality he created in the first couple of years, we were mean, we were shithouses and we never gave up, to instill that culture after what came before it must have took some doing and he will always deserve credit for that IMO.

I personally think the DOF/CEO didn't really have any plans in place for a replacement, they probably figured we'd finish the season better than we have once out of Europe. There is also the risk of bringing in a new manager which doesn't fix things, and everyone would be kicking off that we got rid of a successful manager to bring in worse.

It would take big balls to make such a call, so I can understand why they hedged their bets. Hopefully Wilson will be buying players that he/Suds have prioritised and Howe will have less input. That way, even if he can't make it work, the new manager should be able to work with what he's got for a possession based style.

I was thinking that exact thing. Hopefully any new signings are Wilson buys and not strictly Howe targets meaning Wilson can have one eye on Howe’s future replacement and whether they’ll be able to work with the new signings too if Howe doesn’t turn things around.

We’d not be in the mess we are if we’d had a competent DOF last summer. Thats for sure.

I wish I had some of your lots faith in him.

He is to stubborn to change his losing inaffective system, I think he's tried a 4231 twice this season against Bournemouth in the cup which we won and actually played okay and against West ham which was arguably our best performance of the season.

Then he spoils it by shoehorning burn and Murphy into his teams and ending the positivity in the fan base. 😂

There’s really no guarantee Iraola walks straight into a new job. If he’s smart, he’ll wait a few months into the season to see how things go elsewhere i.e. here and he’ll still be in high demand

He’s also fighting a fire straight away. This way he has a full preseason to get set up

It's hard not to, It's hard to pick out anything we've done well this season, it has been a shambles... transfers, tactics, selection, substitutions, game management, motivation, mentality all a fucking shambles.
