That doesn't explain the inability of the team in general to string a few passes together.

It goes some of the way to explaining it though, because those two have been very important to how we play and at times they don't look like they can control a ball or kick one straight this season.

I do think he deserves to see the league cup run through regardless of anything else.

He needs to see the season out. It could still turn around on a few good games, he should have enough credit in the bank to have earned that.

Part of that is on him to either drop them or find a system that does work for them, and he's failed to do either so far.

This, The summer window was a car crash that wasn't down to him, Jan will be huge and i hope we move on a few players

He has to take some blame. The balance of the team is horrible. His tactics and the balance means we only have one way of playing.

I'd make a change in the summer if an elite manager becomes available.

Plus we've spent enough on that squad where no one bar the striker should be irrplaceable. We've had a very strong bench in the last couple of games which shows there are options.

Do you think we can attract an elite manager?

Yes. Just not sure there's that many elite managers who are available.

agreed, but we have a system that works for them. We scored absolutely shit tonnes of goals last season using it. The players have to be responsible for the effort they put in and Gordon has been lazy as fuck all season and Bruno doesn't look anything like he did last season physically, even if he is statistically running further than anyone else in the league.

Yeah, fair, but look at Arne Slot for example. I had never even heard of him myself. Not sure our board has the same "creativity" or know the market well enough, though.

That would be on Mitchell, surely... Hopefully he does his job well when the time comes.

If we wait till summer it’s another season of failure surely? Apart from the happyclapper (forget his name), Ian W and a couple of Americans who on here still thinks we finish top 5/6?

I'd rather get rid of a host of players before losing the manager.

Things are a bit stale, some poor decision making at either end of the pitch and the side are lacking some confidence/motivation for whatever reason.

I'd be looking at a bit of a fire sale and a mini rebuild. We've got some really great things about our squad.

I'd pretty much take offers for most of our players, in order to be able to do some business in the transfer market.

Eddie Howe is, at minimum, a good manager. We've had 3 managers in the PL era who can sit at the same table as him, in 30 years of football.

In my opinion, losing him would be catastrophic.

Will never shout for him to be sacked but these performances we are seeing are the norm these days. I hope he can turn it around but I have my doubts to be honest. Will back him as long as he's here though.

Not being sarcy, but if you become unconvinced he's the person to lead Newcastle to more than being a top half side, why would you continue to back him?

My view is:

Newcastle were hit for six with injuries last year. There's no such excuse for this season so far that holds water. The squad isn't perfect, find me one that is.

He deserves until the end of the season to turn it around, but I wouldn't give him more money to spend in January. He's got enough to work with and show progress, otherwise we should be saving that money for the next dude.

I understand the instinct to not be reactionary, and that Howe is a decent guy who brought stability and dignity - but I think we can be appreciative of his impact whilst recognising he might be not the guy to take us out of the congested middle of the pack.

Of course. Nearly all elite managers want to manage in the PL. Villa have Emery, I don't see why not.

A good read on Iraola’s style of football, which has a lot of similarities to Howe’s first full season here, but with the midfield shape that we have been crying out for.

I can’t see us appointing anyone currently employed tbh.

I’m not sure what I would do if I was Howe TBH.

He really can’t abandon the basic philosophy he’s been pushing since day one.

And whichever best 11 I sketch out has some serious questions and contains at least 2 or 3 players who aren’t top quality.

Very difficult, starting to think Tonali - Bruno - Miley might be our best midfield 3.

Yep, spot on. In some cases it just reads like choosing anxiety over reality. See also 'West Ham were absolutely shit.' It's just not real. Bad result, yes. Embarrassing result against some lesser beings, no.

 as i said, shit.

Problem is it might be too late then and we're looking at a total rebuild again.

I'm not sure the owners will accept that

He's a better manager than Howe.
