Transfer rumours

Yorkie

The need for quality reinforcements has been acknowledged by the board with the club looking to bring in two forwards. Steve Bruce also wants a winger and a left-back, with Augsburg’s Philipp Max understood to be one name pushed to them. But whether they would meet the £18million asking price for a player in a position where they already have Paul Dummett is another matter.

Bruce has insisted that he will have the final say on recruitment but Newcastle’s Head of Recruitment Steve Nickson will be influential in whatever business comes next as he has been working on compiling lists of targets for months.

Hull winger Jarrod Bowen – who was signed by Bruce from Hereford – is another who has been mentioned. A figure in excess of £10million would be required to prise him from the Tigers, who have admitted “interest” in the midfielder this close season which hasn’t yet extended to a bid.

Not seen him but fully prepared to say there is no way a player called Jarrod Bowen will be good in the Barclays

He's extremely highly rated down here. Gets into some amazing goalscoring positions for a winger. Not the quickest but always seems to be in the right place.

I thought Leicester and Spurs were both after him.

I've been following his career. He's super, smashing, lovely, great.

if bruce has an ounce of sense he watches vids from last season and tries to copy it, changing the 3 CB's would be fucking insanity

I like 5-3-2 it has potential. Would Almiron play just off Joelinton in that or advanced in a three? Hayden or similar plus Longstaff and they might stay up.

we dont even play with a left back

Rafa left bro, we have Steve Bruce now.

the same rafa who 'only ever plays 4231' funnily enough !

would imagine we'll get the saint-maxim guy now as well with the agent link and lowball fee etc.

would possibly be a very good front 3 tbh, if they upgraded LWB we'd have a canny first team potentially

Ain’t a fucking chance any manager has the ability to block deals post Rafa. He may have a say but no way does he have final. Him doing so would directly impact the buy potential sell for higher mantra.

If it's Bruce I don't really care tbh. He knew fine well what he was signing up for, now he should show his mettle and get on with coaching whoever the scouting team throw at him. As long as they are of sufficient quality, he should do fine.

It was weird last season. He didn’t meddle with 3 at the back in pre-season or the first 3rd of the season, then pretty much overnight we went 3 at the back.

did he not play it to match someone else's system at the start of the season then stick with it?

he had used 5 at the back in some of his most defensive games against the likes of man citeh and others. was it not just adapted from that ?

Jamaal said after the West Ham friendly that we switched to a 3 at the back which suited the team and players much better. I have to assume the players told Bruce this or Bruce was informed of such if he wasn't paying attention to our better performances. But instead of that 5-2-3 / 3-4-3 whatever it was they played a more 5-3-2 with 2 out and out strikers in the friendl
