Transfer rumours

Even in spite of everything I'd be really surprised if we didn't get a striker. It'll be someone from the bargain bin, obviously, but someone nonetheless. Also wouldn't rule out Gayle or Muto going.

Better keep hold of those socks then cause you're going be surprised when we dont!

If Gayle and Joelinton are staying, I think we can forget any striker rumours. Seems we’ve shot our swap and loan attempts thus far, and with Gayle saying he’s seeing out his contract...

I genuinely think that Big joe, Gayle and Carroll are the worst striking options any PL club has had.

Dunno about any PL club ever; there are surely plenty worse. But in terms of at NUFC, it'll be pretty close to the worst ever. We've always had at least one striker who looked capable of getting close to double figures - we don't have that now. You'd say the same for 17/18 as well, but that was marginally better than now because Joselu is comfortably a better striker than Joelinton.

Any striker within our pathetic budget won't be worth a light anyway. Honestly couldn't give a fuck if we sign one or we don't.

97-98 disagrees, with Barnes being top scorer with 6

Aye but we had Shearer on the books, he was just injured for most of it. In terms of talent in the squad list, now is the worst ever imo.

Fair point. Didn't include him as you say he didn't really get any game time. However a striker on the treatment table for a year is still going to score less than Joelinton.

Then again Shearer on one leg would still get more just by standing around in the penalty area

How many of these 'Rumours' do we end up signing?

No idea, Bruce took him to Sunderland and weve signed quite a few of their ex players recently though.

Are we actually linked with him or is it just a suggestion?

Speculation. Cheap, and Bruce has worked with him before (and everyone knows his penchant for taking familiar players).

Not quite a 2+2=5, but maybe 2+2 = 4.25

I'm arguing for the sake of it now but Shearer still had a fat handful of appearances in the PL that year.

Anyway, we're all agreed that the current crop is a bag of shite. Joelinton and Carroll were hilariously bad signings for different reasons. Muto was a swing and a miss whilst Gayle's purpose has long since expired; it's a shame for him that he's still here stinking up the place. Could have left as a bit if a cult hero if he'd gone permanently at the end of 17/18.

Muto was more like a get to the plate and take 3 strikes looking.

Incredibly harsh on Gayle. He's not a first line premier league striker but he's never let us down. If he has been 'stinking up the place' I'd hate to see how you describe all of our other current strikers given that he's scored more than all of them combined.

Gayle is a dismal option at this level. He takes about four or five chances to actually score and doesn't have any remarkable attributes to the rest of his game. He's a likeable guy and his contribution in his first tweet seasons was absolutely vital (particularly in the Championship obviously), but to say he's 'never let us down' is very kind imo. The fact he's still arguably out best striker is one massive reason why we're going to be middling between 12th-17th again next season.

Gayle is an underwhelming striker but he's not dismal. He'll get 5 or 6 throughout the season and should ideally be third choice for us. Joelinton is dismal. Rivierie, Xisco etc. were dismal.

You could stay up with Gayle as long as he plays enough games. He's OK at scoring goals.

He is a poor option compared to the real PL standard, but we all know those standards don't apply to us.

He’s 31 a month after the season starts and never scored more than 7.

Which barring Carrolls purple patch before moving to Liverpool and is still better than the rest of our current strike force combined.

Totally prepared to be corrected but wasn't it something like Muto 2, Joelinton 2, and Almiron 3?

And that's only if you see Almiron as a striker, but i always thought he was more of an attacking midfielder.

Wow that's properly grim

That aside, he did ok in the post lockdown matches, got a few goals which mattered, but still shouldn't be first choice for any respectable PL side

It's not a problem, the defence will keep bagging loads of goals this season so we're grand.
