He’s faster than Gundogan / Kovacic.

Just when you are a terrible side at controlling the ball, your weaknesses are exposed a hell lot more.

I’ve always thought Bruno might benefit from a pacey 6 so he can focus more on influencing play further upfield and is less likely to have his lack of pace exposed.

Like Tonali?

Whatever happened to all the little one twos we used to play, used to play some lush football in the channels. Those little runs behind the full backs caused mayhem, Bruno often the one feeding them. Trippier was heavily involved as well but just rarely seem to use it anymore.

Still love the guy but was really winding me up at times yesterday, I get it's why he plays and you take the rough with the smooth but he was going for some hollywood passes despite there being at least a couple of other more sensible options available, on at least 2 occasions his passes led to us being hit on the counter and in trouble

He's certainly not faster than those 2, Kovacic in particular is much quicker

The club posted an interview with Bruno after the game on Facebook, I actually couldn't believe the abuse he was getting from our fans. Not just the odd comment, and not just saying he had a bad game either.  I really hope he didn't see that.

Interview from Howe when we signed Bruno

"When asked if such a goal was on Bruno's highlights reel, Howe confessed he's been signed to play as a number 6 more than anything else."

He said: "Goal-scoring is not something he has made a name for himself doing but he is capable of the unexpected and that is what he did. "The goal was something we probably did not expect from him but shows his technical ability and he is going to be a huge player for us."

It seems like Howe made up his mind about it like 2,5 years ago.

Not changing it anytime soon either.

He's probably the slowest footballer I've ever seen. Can't think of anyone slower tbh

I genuinely think he's slower than Nolan was.

Wasn’t he always a 6 though? Or a relatively deep lying midfielder anyway.

From Bruno himself:

“But if I have to choose I prefer to be a ‘segundo volonte’ (a box-to-box). It was the role I played at Athletico Paranaense and Lyon. But I can also play as the most defensive midfielder.

Yeah, but box to box doesn’t necessarily mean not the middle player.

We know he’s not a traditional DM.

Agreed, not sure how anyone thinks he was good yesterday.

He was coming under pressure from the opposition, emerging with it and finding a team mate quite often. Yes he will sometimes lose it, but I think he only holds it because there's not much movement around him.

We either need a creative CM or a progressive DM to help him out. He can’t be stuck between both roles because of his lack of pace and final ball. It’s almost a burden how well rounded he is.

At Lyon he played as the more advanced player in a pivot with Maxence Caqueret as the deeper of the two.

I think him and Tonali as a pivot is worth a shot but it's just a completely different way to how Howe currently uses his midfield. Tonali and Joelinton are almost out on the touchline half the time we have the ball.

Our lack of any creative 10s become an issue then. Im trying to think would be the least bad option. Wilock maybe? But he has looked a shadow of himself since returning.

Think I was the lone voice when he signed for us and everyone was being blinded by his skill levels and effort not to mention his undoubted charm.

I constantly said there was no fear of an Elite club coming in for him and paying £100m.

There are levels and he falls into a similar one to Merino at Arsenal. Rolls Royce in many ways but not got that great athleticism that elevates them to the top tier.

Our midfield as whole needs a rethink and I still think Tonali creates as many problems as he solves which I reminded people of before his return as if he was the saviour.

Solve the midfield problem and add pace to the centre of the defence (probably a connected issue to the midfield problem) and we aren’t far away amongst the top half dozen teams again.
