Hopefully he can do both (creating and dictating) as he gets used to playing higher up. He has enough ability.

The obvious advantage of him playing higher up is the creativity he adds to our attack.

But I think having him be one of the "trigger" men on the press was very effective today. He's not the most athletic, but his reading of the game and timing was critical to us winning the ball back on several occasions. Interested to see if that's another plus  of him playing higher up, or if he just happened to be up against one of the only few CMs in the league as immobile as him. [emoji38]

Regardless I think having the game in front of him and using his IQ to know when to charge and cut off angles will be a better use of his abilities off the ball. Rather than trying to chase counter attacks as the last man in midfield.

Mcallister had two fierce shots from outside the area, his shooting skills are pretty good.

Bruno looks better in the 8 and or double pivot position. So we dont depend on him being the recovery midfielder as he just doesnt have the pace...

Bruno's shooting is crap though.. That and his pace are the only weakness I can think of. That left footer inside the box was so :anguish:

But he is so important especially when we try to beat the press. Never have I seen someone shielding the ball so well and being able to resist the press.

I've never really got this Bruno can't shoot thing. He's always scored goals for us since he came, including outside the box ones, that was supposed to be his weakness but I haven't seen it.

He certainly doesn't have a cannon of a shot (which I guess is why people think he can't shoot), but according to FBRef, since he's joined us he has an expected goals of 11.5, he's actually scored 16.

All his shooting stats over the last 365 days are well above average.

per 90

80th % in goals

76th % shots on target

73th % shots on target %

80th % goals/shot

76th % goals per shot on target

67th % average shot distance

80th % goals minus xG

Obviously stats are stats, perhaps they look a bit better because he picks his moment to shoot well etc. (though he's stil very high in shots -xG) but there's a lot of evidence he's actually a good shooter.

Anyway, I feel the 'he's terrible at shooting' thing is just a bit overblown.

I might be wrong.  But I think it's to do with how he strikes the ball.  He never gets any power into it and you never expect him to beat the keeper from long range.  Not necessarily down to his accuracy or finishing ability if he is in a bit closer.

It's not a disaster.  He is very good at other things.  But his shooting is weak as piss, IMO.

Hopefully if he's pushed further forward he'll be able to make more runs into the box instead of striking them from distance. In his first season he did score a few from inside the box and that's what we need more of.

You guys are watching a different Bruno to me, he's been our best player all season, very consistent performer.

His striking technique is definitely poor, it's like he's constantly holding the Finesse button in on FIFA.

Seemed less involved than usual and with less touches and passes.  But much more involved  if that makes sense?

So much of what he is doing in these clips is directly resulting in chances, counters, assists, shots etc.

Really hope he is going to make this number 8 role his own and we can see him with more passes like last night that caused all kinds of problems.

Yup, constantly played the pass that put us in position to threaten or threaded the killer ball himself.

Could see Isak was excited to have him closer to him. We will see a lot of passes sending Isak clear from Bruno.

I think he could prove to be really good playing further forward. Not necessarily scoring goals but beating a man and creating chances for Isak.

IMO he has the skills to be the most creative player on the team.

Basically get him to help in the first phase, get it to Tonali or wide. Get him involved in the final phase for the killer ball. If it does not work, let him recycle with Tonali and do it again.

I feel like he's always been our most creative player, it just didn't show as much because he was deeper, and even then he still managed it a lot of times.

Almiron's purple patch was largely due to the understanding he developed with Bruno, who always spotted his runs in behind, even from that deeper spot.

I think we're going to be blown away by how much more creative he'll be further forward.

When he first came in from Lyon and all his highlights were doing the rounds, the first thing that stood out were the ridiculous through balls he played to forward players.
