The Butcher
If the clause is met he'll be gone. It will be one of the big boys in Europe if that's the case.

Hopefully come season 25/26 we’re competing at a level that he’s happy with. If not then maybe.
NoU
It would be a massive loss to see him go. He is player of the season by quite a margin for me and our most important player. That said, with the size of the release clause and Tonali ready to replace him, I am sure we will still continue our upward trajectory if he goes. I can’t see us letting it be possible for him to leave right up until the deadline. Damn this release clause. It’s like setting a pessimistic buy it now price on EBay, when you’ve got two buyers who desperately want your product!
toon25
I'd be surprised if the release clause was open to other PL clubs like.

You don’t insist on a release clause and then buy a house, regardless of how happy you are somewhere. That’s not why I’m stating Edward’s is wrong btw but it is stating the obvious. Houses like that aren’t all that easy to sell given the limited market. Tbf he could pay off the mortgage with his signing-on fee. Doesn’t mean that he’s going anywhere, but buying a house in the area is meaningless in terms of his staying or going. My two-penneth-worth would be that the only club in England Bruno leaves for is Man City. If they meet the asking price I think he’s likely to go. Hopefully not, though. mighty__mag
Yeah we know Edwards is a pessimistic scrote, but if that release is triggered, he's gone right? I know people will be saying it's up to the player, but I'm sure agents will influence and a club like City will sell him the dream with little need to convince. Pretty sure our entourage wouldn't have agreed the buyout, but, I guess they looked at 100m and thought if someone pays that our FFP ceiling is raised. I guess if it did happen, we have to accept this is the way we will need to progress and evolve until financial obstacles change. r0cafella
I’m no fan of Edwards but the moment you put a realistic release clause in a contract it’s bound to fuel speculation mind. Especially when two players of roughly the same level in the same position went for the same money as the clause.

It’s just how things are and we can largely blame FFP and PSR for it.

dave s
I can’t see Arsenal paying 100m for another midfielder when they need to spend that type of fee on a striker. City though are a different kettle of fish

buzza
I can´t see him going to another prem league club, it would be extremely short sighted on our behalf. A barcelona or madrid would not hurt so much and most brazilian players tend to see those as their dream destination...
AyeDubbleYoo
It's a truism that any Newcastle player is going to leave if Real Madrid offer £100m. It's pointless thinking about it.
