Our players just allowed to have bad days? He didn’t play well at all. End of.

Why does it have to be some deep psychoanalysis literally was talking about being a great captain all these weeks after this cup final and now because he had a bad day where the ref was conned by every single dive from the Villa players, let’s just go into every thread and talk smack about our players. It’s tiresome. Reads like a bunch of personal attacks.

100x this. Across a stack of threads!

I thought he had his best game in yonks midweek tbh.  Looked knackered today, the criticism I’d have is that he needs to calm down a bit in games like this, his head does go and we could end up with him missing for three games as a result

Just think its our old problem of averages, eventually they're all going to not have a good game because at present only Gordon/Barnes can be alternated. Even the best players, unless midfield spoilers, are only going to play well 90% of the time at best.

Baby out with the bathwater stuff to suggest there's any alternative.

I agree with people saying players have off days, we don’t have another CM we can rotate in for him and that he plays too much football. Meaning he looks a bit jaded at times.

I love Bruno and what he brings. But I also don’t see anything wrong with pointing out how exposed he was yesterday and that it highlights his physical limitations.

In a game like that against such a quick, direct and incisive passing team. It isn’t a shock that he got a bit found out. Especially when the tactics were off and other players were getting pulled all over the pitch too. The gaps between players were too big and that just isn’t his game. He just isn’t fast enough and I felt he was either bypassed or players were happy to invite him in to make a needless foul.

Tactics didn’t suit us or him. But he was his own worst enemy with his complete head loss and it’s not a new thing.

I still think he’s best in a deeper role. Preferably in a double pivot. Would like to see him and Tonali together with an athletic and technical attacking midfielder in front of them. Purely when it comes to player ability and style someone like Cunha would be perfect and it would also help Isak as well as giving more variety beings able to be really dangerous from central areas instead of going wide all the time.

im not expecting to see us go similar to 4-2-3-1 but I REALLY think it would be the best way to go. Especially when you consider what we already have as well as what we need going forward.

Think Willock could’ve been in for JL yesterday as a runner in the 10 role of a 4231. Then bring JL on in the 2nd half and revert to our normal shape.
Would’ve allowed Bruno & Tonali to play closer together as a deeper midfield 2.
Been thinking for a while they’d both look good there.

Anyway, didn’t happen.

I mean I get what you guys are saying but we’ve won 18 Pl games with 3 man midfield setup on top of a cup. We’ve won the most games in the league outside of Liverpool and are sat at 3rd place right now. We were handedly beaten by a team needing a response after the CL exit and had fresher legs in key areas than us. A team that has only beaten us twice in 3 seasons. Not many top managers chop and change their formations when they are at the top end of the table either.

^ also want to add our world class manager is sick in hospital. No matter how good the setup is it’s going to eventually be a problem for any club.

In a match where you need your triangles at the edge of the box to be working really precisely I thought he was invaluable to us today.

I think we do this in every thread after a loss. People vent genuine frustrations with players and then those players get defended.

Everything you say is true, but the issues are definitely there and need addressing.

Roy Keane regularly lost it and was an all time absolutely mint captain. People aren’t perfect.

“I have no doubt that we beat Liverpool because of him. He was like, ‘We’re not dropping our lines; we’ll keep pressing high, man to man.’ Liverpool weren’t expecting that at all.”
