Got talking to my brother about this and I reckon all five of these teams would comfortably beat anything of theirs in the last 35 years.  I'm probably missing absolutely shitloads of obvious ones too.

This was rushed so not necessarily in order of quality from Team 1-5

Someone put this up

Pickford

Makin

Alonso

Craddock

Mensah

Johnson

Schwarz

Hutchinson

Summerbee

Quinn

Phillips

Absolewt Dogmeat outside of Phillips.

Who the fuck is Johnson?

I suppose Alonso is the theoretical best on that list as he played for top sides and won things.

I do remember that John Mensah / Asamoah Gyan Ghana link up was decent for them in the Bruce years, shame Mensah was a proto-Callum Wilson as he was pretty imperious when fully fit (never).

Also a distinct lack of Bally, Catts and O'Neeeyun to up the clogger quotient.

Where's Steeeyd?

Is a mackem calling you a Durham Mag now an acceptable insult?

When I went to school in Durham the 90s it was 40% scum fans, 40% NUFC and 20% other (mostly man u glory supporters).

It's pretty much still the same now, unless you live in South parts of Durham where theres a lot of Boro fans.

I'm not exactly sure what's so insulting by having a go for being a "Durham Mag" 😅

North West County Durham always been majority black and white. Sunderland nearly twice the distance from  Consett  compared to Newcastle.

Just standard mackem "say it enough times and it becomes true in our minds" bullshit isn't it.

If you're from Durham you're scum if you don't support the mackems.

If you're from Ashington and support the mackems you're as pure as snow is white, marra.

Same as all the shite when they keep on about strongholds. I grew up in Shiney Row and there and Penshaw was exactly the split you described, as was school in Washington. Fucking sad mackem bastards getting wound up about all that bollocks and thinking it means anything other than that they're absolutely fucked in the head.

Extremely likely they will get at least a playoff spot now. It's usually around 70 points for 6th place, so they'll only really need to average not much more than a point per game in their final 24 matches to get there, but at least there's a few other sides doing well, and if they did finish 3rd to 6th then more chance than not they wouldn't come up.

They’re playoff bound unless they have another mega mackem meltdown like last season…

They still managed to get 23 points from their final 23 games last season, so even if they had another mega marra mackem meltdown they would still probably just about sneak into them, but here's hoping.

Can't see them finishing in the top 2, as tight as it is.

They are 8 points ahead of Boro, who would be 1 point outside playoffs if one of West Brom or Watford win their game in hand.

It's still possible they'll miss out, but they've rescued 3 points at the death from the last 2 games which has gave them a decent enough gap.

Message to self, stay out of Cosy Joe's as the sight of that "Wee Phillie" prick in the DJ box boils my piss so much. Just couldn't get the image of him leading anti NUFC sing-alongs wearing that snide Chubby Brown type suit out my head at the weekend. Hates the Toon and Geordies so much he spends every weekend in Newcastle.
