Do we think he is really injured, or is this a MAGA style coverup to protect him.

MAGA style cover up.

And it's actually good management, if it is. Particularly with a goalkeeper.

To not "drop him" allows him to return, if needed.

But if Ramsdale plays well, he won't get back in.

But how does that work if he's not hurt? Eddie pull him aside and say "Mate, going to tell the team you are hurt so you can't play Saturday, mums the word".

Be interesting to hear his response, like maybe "Have you taken leave of your senses gaffer?"

To which Howe would reply

"Fine. I'll tell them you've been shit, I've lost confidence in you and you're dropped."

"Injured sounds good to me gaffer!"

"You’ve been important for us, but your confidence looks low at the moment. I want to take you out of the spotlight for a couple of games so you can reset. Publicly, we’ll say you’ve picked up a minor issue. This protects you and gives you space to get back to your best. You’re still a big part of the squad"

Happens all the time. Framing it as an injury removes humiliation and lets him step aside without confirming he’s been 'dropped' which protects his confidence and reputation. It prevents the media from viewing the decision as giving in to public pressure, keeping authority and stability on your side.

Be funnier if he didn't say anything and walked away with severe limp.

But everyone knows he's not injured and he's been dropped

Great opportunity for Ramsdale to make that shirt his own.

Puts us in a bind if he does excel, do we stick or twist with a £25 mil fee come season end or go for the top shagger.

Also, hoping he does excel and go on a run like Dubravka's last year getting clean sheets al owa the shop.

Personally and probably naive I wouldn’t be in hurry to go for Trafford given history and lack good performances in the Premier League.

If Ramsdale does excel and gains the team’s trust then would be happy enough to stick, given other needs

Agree on not being overly keen on Trafford, just hope we're not ring fencing 25 mill without exploring other market options, unless he's Lev Yashinning through the rest of the season.

Yep no argument there but not a huge sum especially if he and us have a strong end to the season and builds good relationships with defence etc.
