I had shouted for Ramadale to start. I think Pope would have been better tonight, and would have done better for the goal. With that being said, they’re both pretty poor, Pope’s kicking and distribution often brings more pressure back on ourselves.

Yeah, let's go back to the guy who was flapping at crosses himself this season costing goals, tear arsing out of his area costing us goals, and that's before we mention his kicking.

Would save that shot today.

Both of our goalkeepers have some qualities but also some limitations. They’re both not good enough but I’d probably be playing Pope right now.

Pre injury definitely but he has been a bit weak with shots to his left since coming back from it so not sure he doesn't do the same as Ramsdale.

I think we're just a bit fucked as far as the goalie department is concerned. Pope does make key saves but has a howler in him, and does have the odd one where you're like "he should do better" (his attempt at saving Paqueta's effort was worse than Ramsdale's from Dorgu, for instance). But Ramsdale is clearly no upgrade and his passing ability doesn't outweigh his so-so shot-stopping ability.

It's probably the position most desperate for an upgrade imo. We could improve on Gordon for instance but if we don't sort the keeper situation out, we won't break through our ceiling.

Ramsdale has cost us more goals per 90 this season than pope.

Selective memory there, I can also do that - first three away games this season Pope kept clean sheets in all of them. A skilset Ramsdale simply doesn't have

Impossible to quantify.

I don't think Pope saves that shot. Too slow to get down on low shots like that. Maybe if it had been a bit higher on the goal.

It is a bit possible to quantify though isn’t it? Pope has seven clean sheets this season. Ramsdale has zero. Pope saves 75% of shots he faces, Ramsdale saves 45%.

the vast majority of Newcastle fans watching that goal today would expect Pope to save it, because that’s what he does so well (alongside his clangers and poor distribution).

Wasting your time mate, we've never struggled like this with pope in goal, like ever and start of season we were struggling to win as we had nothing up front but we were keeping clean sheets, only one of those two points have changed now - we're still struggling to score goals.

6 shots on target in total over 3 games. All thanks to Pope.

Not seeing your point, we're getting no shots on target now. Also those first three games we were playing with Gordon up front for most of not all, that also contributes to lack of shots on target.
